I haven't experienced any crashes whatsoever, and on top of gaming I even develop heavily multi-threaded software with this workstation, but just to be on the safe side I:

    1) Got extremely pissed off
    2) Disabled HT

I hope to see a new BIOS with the uCode update really soon.

Yeah, but its not a problem until it is. And when it is, it's a huge problem. Calculation errors are worst case. Crashes are bad. Artifacts are annoying.

Best case is that you NOTICE that something went wrong. What if you don't?

Intel has a base BIOS (they don't call it that, its the underlying code) that they deliver to all Z170 chipset based motherboard manufacturers. The manufactures then bundle additional items that they need for their particular models, such as added on IO chipsets, fan controllers, fancy UI's, etc.

Whenever Intel releases their updated base code, Asus (and any other mfg) can build a beta BIOS and release it with just the chances to the intel base code.

The problem is, if they do an official release, they likely have to do a validation, which is time consuming and expensive. Releasing a beta BIOS might get them around this requirement for a quick update, and then trust that intel hasn't introduced something that craters something else.

Let's hope Asus gets us some quick builds, even if they have a non-validated disclaimer.

Now they have thier new z299 boards, that must be advertised well before sales start. So we can shut up with our stone-age technologie. Same with intel and kabylake-x etc.
Ugggggggggggh I really hate this cycle where only the absolute latest released motherboards get attention and updates. These companies are so quick to leave these products in the dark ages. Just go look at the driver support page for any Maximus IX board. No updates in several months. It's really quite sad. I am fully anticipating we will never get another BIOS update for our Z270 boards. At LEAST Z170 is kinda old now coming up on what, 2 years this summer? Z270 is freaking brand new and it's already EOL from a support perspective. Disgusting.

Haha, thanks for mentioning it, but I'm too paranoid to use a third party tool that offers no source code I can compile myself and binaries that are hosted on a ".ru" domain or on mega.

This is on Asus, I'll be on 4 threads until the new bios comes out, and if it takes too long I'll start *****ing around

Double thanks for telling me which version is the latest one! At least I'll know for sure when I have it.

That only works for some cpu's and ones with sidestepping 3 and either model 78 or 94, most aint that.
    processors must
be either model 78 or 94, and stepping 3, for the intel-microcode fix
    to work:

[QUOTE=Groo87;658304]Yeah, but its not a problem until it is. And when it is, it's a huge problem.

How would you know that so called problem was related to this coding error. Yet another knee jerk reaction to something that you would never have known about unless (I've got nothing else better to do than run some codes through the CPU and see if I can brake it geeks) come up with.

Have you or anyone you know had problems relating to this and would you know even if you had.

I would be more concerned about the lack of response relating to the problems some people are having with Bios version 0906.
