960 evo set at x2 in bios

Hi i have an asus strix 270f. I have installed a samsung 960 evo(500gb). Bios shows at x X 2, when i try to set it X 4 bios restarts and resets to x 2. What am I doing wrong, I 'm using the lower m.2 socket below graphics card. It says it shares with sata 5&6 i have a 2tb Baracuda in sata 1or 2. Manual doesn't say a lot.
    Any help greatly received

    hi MalParkes

M.2_1 socket supports M Key , x4 mode it shares bandwith with SATA1
M.2_2 socket supports M Key , x4 mode it shares bandwith with SATA56
suggest to update the BIOS and reset to default and make sure the SATA ports are not connected SATA1/56
