I don't have Watchdogs or Battlefield 1. But I do have Battlefield 4 and Battlefront I could substitute in (I'm told BF1 and Battlefront run about the same as each other).

I'll add the Witcher 3 and Firestrike to the list! And Battlefront/BF4 as well!

Nice one. Will be looking forward to seeing how you get on. My G752VT pretty much stays in my laptop bag doing nothing. Such a waste as the CPU and NVMe SSD are very quick. I have a GTX 1080 in my desktop that is bottlenecked by the i5-4570. The i7-6700HQ in my laptop is much quicker in the physics score on Firestrike so would have been nice to combine the two with an eGPU. But tempted to just build a Ryzen desktop for not much more cash. These eGPUs really need to be cheaper to make them viable. And they need to work plug n play.

Thoughts on the Razer core? I have one available locally for 350 usd. :P Thinking about it, but I have heard they can have compatibility issues with other laptops/brands.

I really wouldn't know which one to choose. If you didn't already have the GPU I'd suggest the Aorus Gaming Box is easily the best choice considering the price. The Asus XG Station 2 'should' work well with your laptop but they are bloody expensive. You could always get one from Amazon and return it within 30 days if it disappoints?

    Fair enough. :P

I wouldn't be able to return the Core, but the additional IO it offers is tempting. I'll have to do some digging to see if it would even remotely be compatible.

I decided to go with the Sonnet eGFX breakaway box for two reasons.

1- It is one of the cheapest eGPU enclosure I have found that has decent reviews.
2- It specifically calls out support for the GL502VM as a supported laptop on its support page.

My order is placed, if shipping is fast I will have benchmarks for yall within a week or so. Cheers!

No problem! Hopefully after this we can finally put to rest (for better or worse) the debate over the TB3 implementation in these laptops! Plus it will just be a fun/interesting exercise.

Also I have started running the desktop 1070 and laptop 1060 configurations through the benchmarks so that when the enclosure arrives I can get the data up here faster. Unfortunately Skyrim SE isn't going to be getting benchmarked. The FPS cap (on by default) fudges the numbers, and removing the FPS cap results in crazy physics bugs which also fudge the numbers.

So yeah, Skyrim SE isn't getting benchmarked. lol

Don't forget to downclock your desktop cpu, if possible.

We don't want the faster desktop cpu skewing results.

Here are some demos you can download.

there's an unreal engine 4 benchmark, final fantasy,

Also resident evil benchmark demo, which I think might scale well with gpu power....
