G74S Does not play Blu-ray Discs

I got a G74S from Sam's Club. So far everything is great but it does not recognize Bluray discs
I even installed Cyberlink PowerDVD I can play normal DVDs; just not Blu-ray.
Any thoughts of what I missed ? Any help is greatly appreciated !!!

Only PowerDVD 11 Ultra offers Blu-Ray playback: http://www.cyberlink.com/products/po...ail_en_US.html

What model ODD is displayed in Device Manager on your system?

They put so many different components in the ASUS laptops that I'm not certain, but with the DVD in the model name, I'm thinking your ODD doesn't support Blu-Ray. I believe the Blu-Ray player that ships with the G74SX is a Slimtype BD E DS4E1S, where the BD stands for Blu-Ray Disc.

Sams lists it as a ASUS G74SX Laptop Intel Core i7-2670QM, 750GB, 17.3" and it was $ 1,298.00
    http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/pr...od4860353#spec

and the ASUS website http://usa.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming...specifications lists it should come with a
    Blu-Ray DVD Combo
    Super-Multi DVD
    Blue-ray Writer

    So did I get the right DVD a Blu-ray ? I'm confused !

Oh thanks for the QUICK reply !! Much appreciated !!

In the specs of the Sam's Club link you provided, it lists:

Optical Drive: DL DVD±RW/CD-RW (the Super-Muti DVD drive)

If you just got it, you might be able to exchange it for a G74SX with a Blu-Ray player by paying the difference.

The ASUS site is listing the 3 possible ODD's that can be had in a G74SX model.

Ahh so the ASUS website is just listing the possibilities?

    Blu-Ray DVD Combo
    Super-Multi DVD
    Blue-ray Writer

I wonder if I can just buy my own Blu-Ray DVD Combo that would be the exact one ?
Who sells them or is ASUS the only source ?

Asus does sell them through their eStore, and there are other sources as well. They are pretty much a standardized commodity, so you can buy one, put on the little cover plate from your current drive, and you'd have a BD drive. (You can even buy the little blu-ray logo for the cover plate if you want.)
