How to enable XFR mode of Ryzen?

When my 1700X CPU is under load, I see that it's not working with 3.8 Ghz as it was needed to be with XFR. I did not overclock CPU. I just changed my RAM's to 3200mhz.

Do you guys can use XFR? If yes, how?

For the 1700X SKU the clock configuration is following:

- 3.4GHz all core frequency (MACF)
- 3.5GHz maximum all core XFR ceiling (ACXFRC)
- 3.8GHz single core frequency (MSCF)
- 3.9GHz maximum single core XFR ceiling (SCXFRC)


You will only see 3.8GHz when a single core is loaded. If you are at UEFI defaults then Precision Boost/XFR will be active. RAM clock change to 3200MHz will not cause PB/XFR not to function.

So far, I have found XFR (Extended Frequency Range) Boost only works in Automated OC mode and also the frequency gain is limited.

XFR will boost clock frequencies above the turbo frequency range and is also based on the capabilities of the CPU cooler. Just 200MHz on the Ryzen 5 1300X and 1500X. Down to 50MHz on Ryzen 5 1400 and Ryzen 3 1200.
I am on the 1800X with just 100MHz boost (if Auto mode selected) and same on the 1700X.
Best performance gains I have got are in manual mode and tuned to my best RAM frequency.
There are a number of ways to OC in Bios and XFR is not the best way to achieve your MAX OC.

That is strange. I have never used "Automated OC mode". But the fundamental rule of CPU going to "OC mode" by change of multipler/PState 0 FID would mean PB/XFR would be disabled.

You see when the CPU ratio is placed out of default value for PState 0 PB/XFR is disabled automatically.

It does not matter if a PState OC is done or multiplier.

So:-

i) R7 1700 = 30.25 (default PState 0 30)
ii) 1700X = 34.25 (default PState 0 34)
iii) 1800X = 36.25 (default PState 0 36)

Will = OC mode = no PB/XFR.

If a PState 0 OC is used I have observed single/multiple cores boosting up and down, but that is not PB/XFR IMO, it's just how a PState OC is.

Also keep in mind that if anything in the CBS section is altered from Auto, OC mode is automatically engaged; nullifying XFR.

I had everything enabled right on a 1700x but couldn't get it going past 3.45GHz cooled by custom water loop (40deg load temps). I got tired of that and OCed it to 4.025GHz.
