My read/write speeds using Samsung NVMe controller were 2123/1854 (960 Pro 1TB), according to Magician. Very similar to your results with Samsung NVMe driver with ASUS benchmarking. It is strange that after the FCU 1709, your results with the MS/Intel NVMe controller became so poor. Even the speeds with the Samsung NVMe controller are maybe 20% lower than the advertised "up to" maximum.

Yes well if you put in a new 960 pro as a raw drive and benchmark it you'll probably get close to advertised speeds, in the real world we have files taking up space, files writing and reading almost constantly.
To me benchmark are pretty much useless for real world statistic. What I do know is that these SSD are really fast faster than our OS and software. Hard drives have been the bottleneck for what the last 10 or 15 years they are no longerG752VY-DH72 Win 10 Pro

Samsung released WHQL Signed NVMe Drivers a few hours ago...
http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor...oad/tools.html
They are still 2.2, but actually signed now

Weird, I see almost the same results (proportionally), with the inbox driver (vs Samsung), the speeds are around the 950 range as well.
I wonder if there's more than one h/w release of the x299 Deluxe board, that would account for this (and possibly for the AHCI/NVME "strangeness" at update too).
It's hard to really say, although we could compare VID/PID combos, and see if they match. They should be the same (except for the device-instance), between us.
Mine's: "SCSI\DISK&VEN_NVME&PROD_SAMSUNG_SSD_960\5&DBEC29A &3&000000", you can ignore the instance-suffix.

Yeah, this is so true, you'd have to boot a really limited WinPE or Linux or similar, to get anywhere near the "sales benchmark" numbers...
I'm usually happy if I'm within 25%, on a fully-enabled OS (Apps, users, everything set up).
Now the PCH is the bottleneck, for most stuff, hence some of these attempts to subvert it, like NVME.

Well in all fairness, I had made 4 attempt to do an in place upgrade to FCU, each time having failure. and 4 times restoring my backup image. So this SSD had plenty of garbage to repair. I suspect that after the clean install, changing from RST to NVME drivers that the drive really didn't have time sort itself out and settle down. In my haste to get my notebook back up to working condition, I just upgraded the NVME Driver to the Samsung NVME 2.2 I believe it was WHQL. And there was the big difference in benchmarks not scientific by any means. and I don't really see any difference from the RST driver. I don't think it matters which driver is used at this point.

I can report also less performance on the 960 evo. is not much. But i am running driver 2.3 i see it and download it. and is working. The subject is windows. there are a lot of error and odd weird drivers malfunction. But we are not alone on these. other manufactures are having issues. From AMD64 drivers install on intel computers apps that need permissions to use it. etc. I can clarify that y have 2 friends with x99 boards that do not have issues. others they think they do not have issues. and me, 2500 computer stop until drivers are updated. something was really wrong. and MS is the blame of it. I can prove it. stream programs are working bad. the Game mode is pristine on recording. etc.
since the update a lot of files where corrupted. I did made a clean install. but make thinks worst I am tired MS forcing the windows on there ways. not on our ways. make manufactures partners look shame and silly
