66994

Bonus Round Challenge: Fit entire Recovery project on to 5GB ASUS Webstorage

Current Progress:

OCTOBER:
Have benched Intel RAID Hardware RAID vs Windows AHCI RAID on the Stock HGST 1TB 7200RPM, and there's a really good gain - so I'd recommend a Hardware RAID setup on NEW INSTALLATIONS OF WINDOWS - to make the process go smoother.
68018

SEPTEMBER:
Windows PE (boot.wim) Windows Setup will boot in the 2nd index of this image after the initial setup restarts and loads the appropriate Setup Files
67509

This is a standard (different names) boot.wim
67510

Windows RE (winre.wim) found in the install.wim \Windows\System32\recovery (Transferred to the Recovery partition after Setup)
67513

Additional tools included (mwuhahaha - I'll probably get in trouble for this)
67512

Just some example boot options
67511

ALERT: READ POST #3

Check to make sure your model has the same hardware as the G751JY (Example: Bluetooth Broadcom vs Intel)
This is driver only, not including software. I'm almost finished my Custom OEM Recovery/Installer for the G751JY - that will have the software list included there.
If anyone can't find these drivers, post and I'll upload them to my GitHub
The drivers that are not enabled are the older or original drivers for reference.

I've got everything primed and ready for Windows 1709.

https://github.com/NeoBeum/ASUS-G751JY

Drivers missing are NVIDIA and Realtek Audio and LAN due to file size limitation. Also the standard driverset that ASUS have on the Support page are not uploaded - because there's no point in doubling up old drivers.

Use the list above to find the appropriate folder - Drirctories in the GitHub repo are the "Class" column in the list.
SCSI Adapters have the Signed 1.1(1.4.7) NVMe and Non-Signed 2.2 NVMe Samsung Drivers.

If by some chance "Intel(R) 4th Gen Core processor PCI Express x16 Controller - 0D01" is missing in device manager - grab the CrystalWell drivers.
It's the Intel 10.1.2.86 Chipset, dated 07/18/1968.
That's how Intel do dating for the newer stuff so things can be installed over the top for newer dated drivers.

If you use the default Windows 10 Intel Chipset driver "Intel(R) 4th Gen Core processor PCI Express x16 Controller - 0D01" will appear as
Intel(R) Xeon(R) v3/4th Gen Core processor PCI Express x16 Controller
Make sure that doesn't happen. The Chipset driver Windows will load for the G751 will be 10.1.1.38 Desktop version.
We want 10.1.1.40.

HDC Is where the Intel RST live - A way to think of what they are is - iaAHCIC is the Software Raid if you like... and the iaStorAC is the Hardware RAID - for changing in the BIOS. (The AHCI/RAID options) iaStorAC is what you'll need preloaded for accessing RAID configs during Windows Installation

I've just found something else Windows is having problems with

Windows can tell that you have a G751 - but it can't tell if it should use the driver set for JL/JM/JT/JY

JM/JT/JY i7 - 4710HQ 4720HQ 4860HQ
JL i5 - 4200H

The JY models carrying the 4860HQ will have problems - because Intel is missing the Crystalwell drivers for the Mobile bundle - and for Windows, it appears as a Server driver set.

This is the difference between
8086 0C01 - 4200/4710/4720 CPU to PCI Bridge (Haswell)
8086 0D01 - 4860 CPU to PCI Bridge (CrystalWell)

Chipset_Intel_Skylake_Win10_64_VER10119 (10.1.1.9) - from the support page does not have the CrystalWell drivers
Run:

SetupChipset.exe -Extract "driver.inf"

The drivers do appear correctly for ASUStek as version 10.1.1.38
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/ScopedViewInline.aspx?updateid=44fcb341-d4be-4c1e-a3eb-77fd...
Intel - Other hardware - Intel(R) 4th Gen Core processor PCI Express x16 Controller - 0d01
Last Modified: 9/30/2016
Size: 98 KB
However - Windows will then categorize the 10.1.1.38 to be updated - to 10.1.1.XX

The only driverset to contain the Crystalwell drivers are the different branch driverset using 10.1.2.XX and these are the only found with the Intel Server Chipset package
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26859/Intel-Server-Chipset-Driver-for-Windows-

I've got a post on the Intel boards to see if they know: https://communities.intel.com/message/494746#494746

nice job digging at this level of details.
A small Q for you.

You wrote that for CRYSTALwell one set of drivers are the following... what is the set of drivers ( inc the 0C01 numbers ) for HASwell ?

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0d00Desc="Intel(R) 4th Gen Core processor DRAM Controller - 0D00"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0d01Desc="Intel(R) 4th Gen Core processor PCI Express x16 Controller - 0D01"

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0d09Desc="Intel(R) 4th Gen Core processor PCI Express x4 Controller - 0D09"

on my JT with 4720HQ, windows 10 creators update decided as well to install the Xenon drivers instead of 4th gen drivers.

I have to get back to you - because reading some of the White Paper stuff from Intel - the Haswell / Crystal Well stuff - have issues with incorrect HW Identification in Windows - so I'm not sure which chips are directly affect and then what they appear as in Windows -

but that very one that you quoted - 0D00 / 0C00, or (0D## / 0C##) - is definitely part of that HW Id thing.
I'll let everyone here know if I get a reply on my Intel Developer Community thread.

I'll dump a generic driver set for Windows 10 - Creators/Fall Creators Update when the Fall Update gets released - maybe in a month, but the Creators Update Recovery I'm doing - is very very simple to convert to other Model ASUS Notebooks.

The HW driver that windows ends up downloading names the devices as that Intel Xeon/4th Gen, which is really weird.
The Crystalwell drivers are completely absent from the ChipsetSetup.exe dating back from the one ASUS uploaded to the final release for G751JY -
Chipset_Intel_Skylake_Win10_64_VER10119

Even anything current on the Intel download page - the Crystalwell drivers are missing - even if it's to do with Iris and the onboard Graphics - I'm certain that Windows is getting confused - and ends up causing conflicts.

Because it'll download a full set - and then realise - oh... wait ... there's something missing... it finds it, and then it ends up belonging to a different set... for example - the Intel Server Boards - and then that package is downloaded too. I don't trust windows enough to be able to accurately do everything - so I'm putting my money on all of this causing some sort of minor issue.

The 4720HQ is Haswell.

There's only a handful of the Crytalwell chips - and this is why I think it may have been easily missed - because not that many devices out there for people to report problems.

It's also quite frustrating, when you download Intel's own identification software, and your processor turns in to something the G751JY never had in the first place according to ASUS' hardware specs... so it's hard to trust anyone unless I have something that isn't throwing errors, or some driver package that includes everything.

It's like asking to fault find something and giving you a broken multimeter to test with

I was about to go down to Windows 8 last week to test using the Win 8 drivers to compare - but I accidentally threw out my recovery disk when I was hucking out old Windows 10 DVD backups.

@NeoBeum - i've just check my win 8.1 OEM image I made on my G751JT 4720HQ back in the days using backtracker.
The laptop was shipped with inf chipset drivers 9.4.0.1027 (guess it's intel's number, not asus ).
I tried "updating" using these extracted drivers on my current installed win10 CU, and the "xenon" name still appears for device 0C01 (PCI-E x16 controller) and 0C04 (DRAM controller).

My point is that, if that's the state on win8, why should we expect something else on win10 ?

P.S - i've also updated my "chipset" driver to 10.1.2.86 from HERE, and their data are indeed 1968 - lol...
device names are still "xenon"...

Hello, I wanted to know when do you go to publish the version with softwares? Thank you for this sharing.
Is it possible to have already a link software for the audio driver? Since the update I have cracklings and I have big gaps sounds-videos

Intel Corp replied to me on their boards and told me to try 10.1.1.42, which I have already done.

For the LynxPoint Haswell, everything should be Good, like I had written, but for the JY, the CrystalWell should not change to Skylake.
If the Haswell chips are changing to Skylake, they said to contact ASUS, which I had done already.
Bahz has forwarded the reports to the Engineers.

If the chipset drivers 10.1.1.42 are installed, everything should be OK, until Windows recognizes the 0C00, 0C01, 0C04, 0D00, 0D01, 0D04 is using a generic driver, then attempts to update.

This is the problem.

it doesn't know what it should do.

I had the Windows 8 drivers unpacked a few weeks ago, and cross referenced, and it's a Windows 10 issue.

Hi, I'm a firm believer of quality, and I hate things that are given to me broken, or apps that are junk like 90% of Steam and Google Play.
so until I have confirmation from Samsung, Intel and Asus, I will only have partial dumps, on my Github. I'll slowly push the Windows 10 Installation Scripts and Source when I generalise them so that the entire ASUS Notebook range are able to use them as templates.
I don't do things half assed.

oh, if anyone is reading this, and you're using another vendors PCIE NVME that's not samsung, can you tell me the driver set you have for the nvme controller, I may as well do all major brands while im at it

just reading everything all over again, I reckon somewhere along the line of Windows updates, it perma overclocked my cpu to 2.5ghz base...
