G752V & SSD options, Samsung 960 EVO - 500GB NVMe - M.2 SSD?

Hello All,

I read through the stickies and related SSD threads and can't seem to find the definitive answer to this question.

Will this SSD card work in my G752V?

Samsung 960 EVO Series - 500GB NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V6E500BW)

I read posts regarding the Samsung 950's but didn't find anything on the 960. I am hoping this works. It would be nice to have a 500GB in a RAID 0 pair for $440.

Thanks in advance!

Yes my G752VY is running a Samsung 960 Pro the EVO are the same basically. There is not much advantage to running these in RAID 0 since there already running at about maximum speed for the BUS.

Hey, I just wanted to give an update about the Samsung 2.2 NVME drivers for Windows 10.
They've escalated my ticket to HQ, so some of the senior tech and developers can look at it.

This is to Samsung? maybe you need to start or link to a thread just on this issue? I'm just running the IRST driver as came from the factory set up with out issues.

It's for clean install, with secureboot, to native install to nvme... might be different for the 752, if you can access the nvme in bios menu.
751s will have issues with secboot and 960s for clean install

you'll know if the laptop doesn't load the nvme drive first because the Branding Logo animation will flicker and load twice, and you'll definitely know if Windows forces the driver into the bcd, because you'll bsod. I think 950s are covered by having 1.1 driver and 2.2 driver on the system, as Windows will use other drivers before attempting to use the non signed driver.

Well yes I thought the thread was for a G752, I guess using the NVME driver would be different but better than IRST Driver? I don't really miss Samsung Magician, other than Magician what would be the advantage of running a NVME driver over the Intel RST driver?

Thanks for the replies!

I am hoping Magician works if only to mirror the spinner OS onto the new SSD.

I thought the only configuration option was only as a Raid 0 and in pairs? I can run them as 2 separate drives? Maybe I will only order 1 and more memory.

Macrium Reflect is a much better Imaging or Cloning software and free.
Yes RAID 0 is only an option 1 SSD will work just fine. Mine does Most of the G752 come from the factory with one M.2 NVME SSD, Some of the 500gb versions were indeed 2 x 256 in RAIO 0, I have heard of some that came with 2 x 128GB in RAID 0, but you have two ports both are very fast compared to the SATA Port a 2nd SSD would be good or Video editing or Auto Cad anything that is hard drive intensive. For me 1 512 960 Pro works just fine, some time in the future I might drop in a 2 TB SSD into that 2nd slot just cause I can I don't really have any use for it

751s do not support NVMe protocol whether it be a clean install or clone.

Had no issues installing to JY with an SM961 AHCI drive
