bfollowell, you said you're looking for a sound card? What do you feel are the benefits of doing this over the on-board?

I've just never had a lot of luck with onboard sound solutions. I've tried once or twice, then always gone back to a discrete card because the sound has always seemed richer, more full than anything I've ever heard from any onboard sound solution.
I know I can't lump everyone into the same group, but, in my experience, most of the people that I have found that thought onboard sound solutions sounded really good, were users that had never owned a discrete card and really had nothing else to compare it to.
I haven't made my mind up 100% to get one this time around though. I do have my eye on the new Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5 though, and it's specs do have me drooling. I'm going to hold off for a while though and use the onboard sound of my Maximus IX Hero for now and wait for more reviews of the AE-5.
