    How do you develop the slimmest possible gaming notebook that houses the fastest graphics mobile GPU plus high frequency quad-core CPU, without overheating or generating excessive noise? Meeting these requirements was a huge challenge for ROG’s thermal engineers.

    After extensive R&D work, the outcome is the new Active Aerodynamic System (AAS). AAS is an impressive new approach to notebook cooling that allows the bottom plate to physically flex and open; creating 20% more open space for air circulation. This gap improves airflow through the system by 32%, reducing temperatures by 20% compared to existing laptop cooling designs.

    Because it is so slim, the keyboard has been moved forward in order to maximize the inner space for the hardware and cooling equipment. However, with less than 15mm internal vertical height to work with, ROG engineers developed a combination of specialist fans, heat-pipes and ultra-slim cooling fins to fully maximize cooling capacity.

    It starts with the carefully crafted aluminum alloy shroud around the intake fans. Its curved edges and raised guides channel more cool air into the fans. Its shape specifically reduces noise levels further and makes the acoustic profile less obtrusive.

    The fan blades are made of a special liquid crystal polymer (LCP) that reduces the fan blade thickness by 33%. This extreme slimness has allowed 71 fan blades, 34% more than usual designs.

    The eye on slimness has also made its way to the aluminum heatsink fins, which are now just 0.1mm thick, half the thickness of usual designs. The thinner profile simultaneously reduces air resistance while allowing more fins, which increases the surface area for better heat dissipation.

    All these enhancements make the cooler more effective, allowing the fan to spin slower and quieter while maintaining sufficiently cool temperatures.

    Connecting the GTX 1080 to this impressive cooling array are a set of sintered copper heat-pipes, allowing the Zephyrus to draw the heat away fast and efficiently, maximizing its cooling potential.

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X

    ROG Engineers have managed to squeeze a full GeForce GTX 1080 8GB (10Gbps) with 2560 CUDA cores boosting between 1.278-1.468GHz. This meets the Max-Q specification, optimizing power, noise and performance. The 256-bit GDDR5X memory interface generates a total 320GB/s bandwidth, delivering truly desktop-grade performance without compromise.

    NVIDIA Max-Q Technology

    When considering how to test the ROG Zephyrus, it’s important to consider what the gaming laptop with NVIDIA Max-Q technology should be considered as a complete package. Focusing overly on individual benchmark scores does not convey the full picture of a truly portable, quiet, capable gaming experience.

    Max-Q technology optimizes power efficiency, which in turn improves gaming battery life, lowers noise to sub-40 dB and allows this ultra-slim and highly portable form-factor to be achieved. Layered a-top of this, NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience software in turn optimizes game settings to meet target frame rates at a recommended image quality, again maximizing battery life without compromising the in-game fidelity. Overall this gives the best possible gaming experience; genuine gaming on-the-go with low noise and essential ease of use – a key consideration for many who just want to jump into games without hassle.
