I have the Problem with aktive ErP and Active XMP-Protokoll on BIOS 3504. So I have made a ticket to ASUS but they told me, that this shut off/on are a normal behavior for the Maximus VIII. I use a Maximus VIII Extreme. The only solution I found, was to set the RAM to Manual mode. Then I set to Manual-Mode I haven't the off/on Problem. So I hope they fix this Problem as soon as possible.

Can you tell me more about the issue you have experienced?
    What your build SPEC?
Can you tell me about your setup steps that triggered this issue?
If only the mobo, RAM, and CPU are installed, does this issue still persist?
Thank you for your support, your answer will help us greatly in investigating this issue

I have the same on/off issue with 3504 when powered down completely. System is OC'd to 4.61GHz and XMP ON.
    Specs:
    Maximus VIII HERO - BIOS-3504
    i7 6700K - 4.61GHz, Adaptive 1.237V, BCLK 100.4, LLC-6
    H110i GTX AIO cooler
G.Skill Trident Z F4-3200C16D-16GTZB 16GB(2x8) - XMP ON, OC'd to 3.478GHz, 1.344V set by XMP (not sure why it's not 1.35V), MRC Disabled, Fast Boot Enabled, VCCIO 1.336V and SA 1.352V both set by XMP (they seem high to me), ErP Disabled

    My Specs:
    Mainboard ASUS Maximus VIII Extreme
    CPU: Intel 6700K Standard Clock
    RAM: GSKill RipJaws V 3000 2*16 GB CL 15
    Grafikcard: ASUS Maximus GTX980TI P
    Soundcard: Creative Soundblaster ZxR
    TV-Card: Hauppauge QuadHD
    SSD: Samsung 960 Pro
BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 850 W

Then I activate XMP and ErP S4+S5 I have the Off/On Problem.
Then I set XMP-Mode to Manual and set all Settings for the RAM to the same as XMP has set automaticly and ErP is set to S4+S5. With this Setting i have resolved the Problem.

The Off/ON-Problem have caused another Problem with my Soundcard, because my Soundcard can't detect form my Mainboard then the Off/On-Problem occured. Without Off/On-Prollem i have a better detection of my Soundcard. The Soundcard have the Problem to initialise to Long and so the Mainboard cannot always detect. Without Off/On-Problem I have a detection-rate of 95%, but with Off/On-Problem the detectionrate sunk under 50%.

I have this Problem since 3504. I haven't this Problem with 3401 and older.

So I hope this Information can help to make the BIOS better and help to make the PCIle-Port more compatibel with Soundcards.

Probably your last thought... certain settings triggers it or everyone would experience it. I also experience none of this "problem" behavior. That is, if "it" even is a problem. Considering ASUS' use of form responses and history of communication errors I am not sure everyone is even talking about the same issue.

3504 on here. First BIOS update since 2202. Done it this morning, all great stuff. Clocks remain stable, nothing new to report. Scaremongering post is this, honestly.

Rules of BIOS updating remain the same, and if followed, there should be no problem.

    1. Make a copy of your settings, not a backup of BIOS, ever! Save snapshots to Google Drive, or whatever.
    2. Copy BIOS to USB and 'test' to see if your BIOS can read it first, without flashing. This will confirm you have USB drive correctly set.
    3. Enter BIOS and choose 'reset to defaults', reboot.
    4. Flash.
    5. Enter BIOS and choose 'reset to defaults', again, reboot.
    6. Enter your copied settings that you noted earlier (you did didn't you?), one by one, and save. (painful, I know, but less so when end result works)
    7. Reboot.
    8. Enjoy new BIOS.

    All good

I have the on/off/on problem with 3504 and have it even on a reset bios system, whereas this did not happen with 34xx. Do you really think this is a fiddle of my imagination? Before accusing people of scaremongering, realise that this could be a specific combination of settings and hardware. If you search on/off/on and ASUS on the internet, you will see this is not the first time it has been reported, for various boards and BIOSes. So this is great you have had a good experience, but this is not the case for everyone, and there is no need to suspect they are onto something nefarious. Especially when ASUS support themselves have confirmed the issue...

Do you think the on/off bug can damage the board in any way? Or is it just annoying?
