Rog-strix-gtx1080-o8g-11gbps bios

I got an ASUS ROG-STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-11GBPS from Newegg. During initial setup I downloaded all the utilities and updates from the ASUS page here:https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/ROG-STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-11GBPS/HelpDesk_Download/

Well, when I ran the BIOS update tool, I had assumed it was going to tell me what the BIOS revision did so that I could decide whether to let it go through. It didn't do that. Instead, it just went through. I am now stuck at BIOS 86.04.66.00.38 AS04. I contacted ASUS support 3 different times before I got a straight answer on rolling it back. The final word: I will have to send my card in for service with ASUS. I am shocked. This operation would take me less than 5 minutes if I had the correct BIOS file available. Unfortunately, I cannot find the right one for my exact card.

This forum is the final place I could think of to try to get this fixed. Can anyone out there offer any assistance?

Hi ColdAtrophy

Welcome to the ROG forum !

I see what happened you updated to the Quiet Bios, Techpowerup may have a vbios for your gpu, let's check.

2nd one from the bottom ?

Unfortunately, Techpowerup has only one BIOS that matches my Subsystem ID, 1043 85F9, and the one it has is exactly the same one that I've already got. That was the first place I checked. Thank you anyway though.

Wouldn't it be the O8G that you have listed ?

If you haven't already sent your card back, read through this thread. It sounds like someone with a similar issue and I believe they're referring to the same card. If so, one of the later posts looks like someone may have finally posted the original firmware so that you can roll it back. I'm not personally familiar with the process of flashing the GPU firmware so, hopefully, you are or there are more details within that post.

Good luck.

Thanks but I did see that thread in my Googling. The person suggested finding the GPU on Tech Powerup, which I have already done. They only have the same BIOS I currently have. I didn't send it in yet because I was still holding out hope that I could find the file. Flashing would take me 5 minutes. Sending it in will take weeks.

Are you certain that the very last post, dated 7/30, didn't have a link to the default BIOS? It seemed to imply that it did. I can't check it out myself, and maybe the poster was mistaken, but he certainly seemed to think that he'd posted the original BIOS and not the quiet BIOS.

Either way, I ordered the same card just the other day. It's supposed to be in Monday afternoon. I have no idea which version of BIOS it will have, but I'd be glad to dump it and send it to you if someone could step me through the process. I'm sure it's not too complex, but I've never done that before.

Yeah, I'm sure. Just to be 110% certain, I went through it again. Tech Powerup has exactly one BIOS that matches my specific card.

I would be glad to walk you through the process of dumping your BIOS if you wouldn't mind sending me a copy. I can't thank you enough for the offer.

Sure thing. I may be the one looking for help next time. You know, pay it forward and all that...

Send me the information I'll need to dump it and I'll get it to you ASAP. Hopefully, I'll get the card installed after I get in from work Monday afternoon and be able to get it dumped and to you that evening, by Tuesday evening at the very latest.
