1) Why is the thread closed?

2) What happened to the Apex drivers on the asus website?

There were drivers a week ago for windows 7, I downloaded them all... but now there is only bios and QVL for anything besides Windows 10 64-bit OS

1. I don't know but that thread and the RVIE thread are kind of a mess anyway
2. Again I don't know but I installed Win 7 on my R6 Apex yesterday and I installed all drivers from the provided driver disk without issue

For anyone wanting to install Win 7 on any Intel board Z170/270 or X299 I suggest creating your USB media using the Win 7 installer APP from one of the Z270 boards, it will slipstream the needed USB 3.0 drivers and Windows NVME driver into your media making it easier to install

I just checked the website and all the Windows 10 64bit/32bit drivers are still there but in Windows 7 it only shows the BIOS. Windows 7 was a great OS but honestly have no reason to want to use it anymore. I'm pretty happy with Windows 10. But I have used it since preview so very synced up with it now.

I took the plunge last night and ordered this Apex board so I hope there is nothing weird going on with support of it. I got tired of waiting for the Extreme and it seems the Apex has most of the features I liked from my RE5 Extreme anyway along with the streamlined memory traces. Ordered the below along with a new Samsung 32inch Freesync 2 monitor. I already have 2 Fury X cards and right now I don't even know if its worth upgrading those. Not sure I am impressed with the RX Vega 64, though if I could get the liquid cooled one for the actual suggested $699 retail price I might go down to 1 card instead of crossfire which is a pain at times.

Also windows 8.1 is not one of the choices. I think that is because Microsoft only supports Windows 10 with the 2066-socket CPUs.

When looking to fill in Win7-8 drivers or looking for updates, try checking the Windows 10 list. Download and open the zip. Look at file names or look in the 'setup.ini' to see what OSs it will install into. That worked for me to update MemTweakIt last week.

I came across one installation issue that is under discussion on HWBOT, so I had a clue. The Catzilla benchmark throws errors after it is installed on a X299 - won't accept its serial number. The 'fix' for now is to install on another motherboard. It's convenient that the Z270 works with the same drivers as the Z299 and the DIMM.2 is interchangeable between M9A and R6A. I stuck the DIMM.2 with SSD into the M9A, installed Catzilla, ran it to check, moved the DIMM.2 back to the R6A and it worked.

How do I know if I'm going to get the Apex board with the new VRM cooling or the old one? Or was the old only sent out to the reviewers and the new one is the one actually getting shipped to consumers? Sorry if its a silly question was just reading up on all this stuff when i was trying to decide on which ROG board to buy. Ordered mine off Newegg yesterday so should get it hopefully by Wednesday.

jab383, while setting up drives for benching I tried installing Catzilla and got that error, thanks for the info
The only driver I seen that was exclusive to Win 7 is Bluetooth, all other drivers are Win 7 - 10

I believe the new heatsink will be on any board sold retail

Ridiculous. I'm using Win 7 Pro with the drivers that were on the support site for this model before Asus pulled them. This board as well as the Rampage VI Extreme works great with Win 7. Are you really going to tell everyone the only way to use this board is with Win 10?

I am also using Win 7 with the drivers I downloaded before they disappeared. Everything seems to work fine.

I did not like win 8 or 10. I do not want to use either of them unless I am forced to by my motherboard manufacturer... ... ...

Hello

This is a non-issue. The ASUS EZ Installer for Win 7 is available in the utilities section of the Win10 drivers. This is the only driver/utility required for installing Win7. The listed Win10 drivers are also Win7 compatible as well as the necessary drivers being on the disk included with the motherboard. Thread topic solved and thread closed.
