MAXIMUS V GENE CPU Socket Replacement ?

nchardcore
Level 7
Hiya there. I've purchased my motherboard back in 2012 and last year i lost 3 of the cpu socket pins from the motherboard when i moved back to my homeland. I've managed to boot it up and used it with no problems at all with 3 broken pins. Yesterday i moved to UK and when i tried to boot it again it didn't work this time. All i got was QCode 00 and i tried everything like i did last time (flashing bios, fixed bended pins) and it didn't work.. Unfortunately when i removed the cpu to check the pins again i saw three more broken pins and i don't want to lose my cpu or my motherboard trying to fix the cpu socket. So my question is;
Is it possible to replace the CPU Socket from the motherboard in the hands of a professional or a retailer or is it dead for good ?
I don't want to rebuy the card because this motherboard has a special place for me and i don't want to upgrade to newer tech yet.
Please help.. Thanks in advance

Hi nchaedcore

Welcome to the ROG forum.

It could be repaired (if someone has the 1155 socket in stock) but for the cost of shipping and someone to repair it, you'd be better off to upgrade.

You could contact Asus and ask if they can repair it and how much it would cost.

Thank you for a fast response.
Does that socket needs to be from the exact same motherboard or it can be generic ? Because i did find some sockets from ebay and there are some local shops that might do it but what i want to do is if there's a repair needs to be done i'd like to do with with official hands. If that's not possible i'll be looking for shops that can do it in the city that i'm in.
Thanks in advance

I imagine you'd need the same 1155 socket as that's what the board is built around, you'll need an 1155 socket to use the same cpu anyway.

Contact ASUS and see what they suggest, this would be my first choice. If they can't do it then resort to a local shop that can, the total cost of the socket and repair will likely be more than what the motherboard costs.

I've send an email to ASUS and awaiting for reply atm. If the official path doesn't work i have to find an alternate solutions. What i understand is i need an LGA1155 socket. It can be any LGA1155 socket, it doesn't have to be from an another MVGene board.
Thank you for your quick responses you've helped me alot 🙂
Fingers crossed i'll await response from ASUS. Thread can be closed.
Thank you! 🙂

You're welcome

You are correct, socket 1155 is what you want.

Let us know if Asus can repair it and the outcome of your situation.

Thank you

Update on the situation;
ASUS contacted me back and it's a big let down for me but i was expecting it. In the mail i got;

"Unfortunately in this case damaged pins on the CPU socket cannot be repaired. This type of damage usually invalidates the warranty of the motherboard.
However as the motherboard is already out of warranty it can only be serviced as a paid service by a third party service center. I recommend you check with the local service centers if they can service the CPU socket and how much it will cost. Unfortunately Asus does not make out of warranty repairs for components." as a response..
It seems like i might have to say goodbye to my old friend and upgrade to maximus viii gene instead since i like what gene series offer.

I know this is an old thread, but wanted everyone to know about a company that does cpu socket replacement. I was skeptical at first but got my M5G back and it works perfect after not being able to boot after bending and attempted repair of cpu pins.. Sent it off and a week later it comes back good to go! Check out PS3SPECIALIST.COM. if you want/need to know more. I only mention this because it worked for me after I F@&k*d up my cpu socket. and the price was reasonable compared to buying a used board from ebay.
