If there was nothing wrong with the board, why wouldn't asus send it back instead of replacing it? Why wouldn't they send it back with an explanation of what the person was doing wrong. That doesn't make any sense. Can you locate and refer me to the asus definition of what recertified means and what criteria a motherboard must pass before it is considered recertified? I haven't had any luck finding it throughout the forums or the support site.

A recertified board is practically the same a refurbished board, the difference is that it's a returned board within warranty period where the condition is deemed to be in excellent condition and no different from a new board. It is tested by engineers to pass all tests to ensure customers will not be replaced with another board with similar or other issues. In simple definition, majority of the recertified boards should be returns within 30 days, are not repaired but tested to be NDF and passes all tests and technically is the same as a new board.

Also if you only purchased it recently, I don't see how you can't return it to the retailer for direct replacement. Most retailers have 14 or 30 days return/exchange policy and this would be the easiest way to get a brand new replacement.

The board was purchased in July but put into service last week, well past amazons return window or I would have used that option. Trust me, the last thing I wanted was to spend $400 for what will turn out to be a used motherboard. I can only hope that it didn't fry the CPU which was delided and clocked up to 5.2 ghz. I guess I'll find that out today when the "new" motherboard arrives.

I see no backplate either, I'll let Bahz the administrator know.

Give him 24 hours to respond as he is in Taiwan.
