Yes but that doesn't really help with the SSD speeds. The microcode that was before the Spectre fiasco, was allowing the 900p to get up to 300-400Mb/s on 4k random read/writes at QD1. The moment the microcode came out that first addressed the Spectre issues and the subsequent ones and MEI updates, it pretty much killed that speed by 20-40%.
I was lamenting that I would love to go back to the Microcode and MEI prior to the first Spectre patch and just take my chances in getting spectre, but I have a feeling that would also mean having to go back several BIOS revisions and even then Windows would autopatch a bunch of things that would kill the speeds again. It is sad that the 'fix' cripples the speed of SSDs so much.Panteks Enthoo Elite / Asus x299 Rampage VI Extreme / Intel I9-7900X / Corsair Dominator RGB 3200MHz

Unless you roll back BIOS and windows and dont do any updates it wont help. For me and going to the 9940X I cant even go there as the old microcodes wont support the chip. Yes it sucks that a lot of the systems are crippled/downgraded in operation. I tried recently ditching the patch and gained nothing by it. About makes me want to go ahead in install a scond system, one that I can use for the performance aspects that stays disconencted from the net and another for just use on the net.

I actually did an experiment and ran Cinebench and Crystaldisk mark both with the Spectre/Meltdown patch on and off. Maybe a 2% difference with the patches off. I may see if I went back to BIOS 801and turn off the patch to see if there is any difference. I'm seriously considering to see if I can install an old MEi with a BIOS like 1003 or something if there would be a difference?
I also just realized that my computer downstairs which has been off since my flood never got the updated BIOS or MEI uploaded onto it but I did turn it on yesterday to update Windows 10 to 1809. So without those patches I'm going to take one of my 900ps and see what the speeds are down there without the BIOS patch. Should be interesting tho my guess is the update to 1809 will some how screw it all up.Panteks Enthoo Elite / Asus x299 Rampage VI Extreme / Intel I9-7900X / Corsair Dominator RGB 3200MHz

So that answers that. Went downstairs to the computer that has latest build 1809 on it but never had it's BIOS updated (still circa 2015) and never had the MEI patch. It runs slower than on my main computer. When I checked in Spectre.. it says my computer is fully protected!! I'm not sure how if the BIOS is before the Updated BIOS. So I'm not sure what the BIOS updates are for anymore if the computers can now be protected without them and by simply running the updated WIndows 10.
In the end with the SPectre/meltdown patches I expected the 900p to run slower on a 4970k machine as we know the older the machine the higher the slowdowns are, but I honestly didn't expect a computer without an updated BIOS to still be effected so much. So it looks like we just gotta deal with it.Panteks Enthoo Elite / Asus x299 Rampage VI Extreme / Intel I9-7900X / Corsair Dominator RGB 3200MHz

Well Buddy BT,
I had an issue earlier doing a diagnostic start up and got a BSOD with missing hardware.....namely my 905P. I had been annoyed with the sound of disconncting hardware at every boot and never could figure out what it was. So decided to do a fresh install instead of a clone. Win 10 1809 followed by chipset driver and MEI from ASUS page. This on the modded bios. latest IRST...not IRSte this time as its a single drive. Basic apps installed and all drivers are updated to latest and greatest.
We dont have to deal with it. Nice fresh install, not patched...just new MEI
Are you holding on to your shorts?
Was barely breaking 200 on Q1 before....Its back and blazing
Maybe patch instead of freshly installed?
Microcode 49...H disappeared

Nice looking 900D.
SLI is scaling well for me. Nvidia dumped it but they are back on it but dont support more than 2 cards for pretty much everything but benchmarks so more than 2 is a waste, 2x 2080 strix i put in mine are rocking. Nice to see everything popping up as better than 99% of other results and holding the top spot on user benchmarks where it prompted me to enter what cards im running as its a fair amount past the previous top dog. lets just say I can run everything at ultra and not even sweat.

Very interesting. I went and checked all my settings. I have did a fresh install to 1809, using the modded BIOS but the one thing I didn't do was install latest IRST. Sure enough I look at my device manager and it says it is missing an "Other Device" -> RAid Controller. So I go to intel and download the latest IRST (non enterprise) it was version 18.0 something and I thought all was good. Nope. Still missing that RAID Controller. I had already installed the latest Chipset, and MEI just not the IRST and now I can't seemingly install the proper "RAID controller" software I need.
Whether it is that which is stopping me from getting your speeds or something else I don't know.
I did go through one interesting issue when I first loaded up the Intel Chipset tho. I'm thinking it doesn't like the Hyper x16 because When I installed it, I had that hyper in there and it took nearly 20 minutes for it to figure out the two drives on there. It would keep adding them, removing them, adding them again and the would remove other drives, add them as if it was going through some step by step order to make sure they all got the drivers it needed. I never seen such a thing or have it take this long. In the end it worked, every drive was recognized and worked.
**EDIT** Found the RAID controller just did an update and point it to the IRST folder and it updated fine but still no great numbers. I wonder if it is only a 905 p thing or if the 900p will work too. BTW the INSpectre results are the same cpuid as yours tho I am still on 49H microcode, so I'm wondering if you changed up somewhere.Last edited by Brighttail; 01-28-2019 at 02:11 PM.
