Welp Justin you were right ... and for a brief moment, it was glorious! Back to the way it was. As you said it happened after the install of IRST, MEI, Chipset, and MB drivers.
Then windows updated and it went back to the way it was. I did it all over again, this time I didn't do the windows update but after 2 reboots and the moment that the Intel Turbo Boost technology booted up for the first time with the computer, the speed went back to the way it was. I'm not sure if it is something else that is loading up with Windows 10 or the Intel Turbo Boost. I may try to see if I can disable it and see how it goes but I'm not super optimistic.
Have you tried the test again after installing everything, Justin?Panteks Enthoo Elite / Asus x299 Rampage VI Extreme / Intel I9-7900X / Corsair Dominator RGB 3200MHz

My test was after all drivers and *updates, *install of Microsoft office, origin, steam, chrome, Ccleaner, *NOD32, *update of IRST and a host of other things. All windows updates until it stopped updating in 1809. *Installed crystalmarks and ATTO as I just wanted to check. Something you installed killed it. *
How far are you in? Would be nice to know what it is that’s killing it by doing one step at a time then retesting *to see where it changes. *Last edited by JustinThyme; 01-28-2019 at 09:16 PM.

I’m almost tempted to break it to see what’s causing it. Maybe mine will go south at some point to. Maybe a shout out to intel.*

I got it to work twice. The first "break" was after I installed Asus aura. The second time I didn't install that but just did a microsoft update. Both times the only things I had installed were the motherboard drivers and IRST, MEI, Bluetooth, wifi, the normal motherboard stuff. Nothing else

So I'll post this here as I put on the Windows community. Simply put it looks like Intel Turbo Boost is killing our SSD speeds by 33% as both our machines, the moment it popped up after the 4th/5th boot, boom we lost the speed. Even turning it off in BIOS to keep it from being loaded up, it is still put into the registry on an OFF state. If i remove the entries, Microsoft puts it back and and re-enables it. Seriously this is screwed up. Suggestions anyone?
Greetings,
It is no secret that with the recent microcode updates to protect consumers from the SPECTRE and Meltdown issues, there is generally expected a slow down in CPU processing speeds and SSD performance. Myself I have noticed that my Intel 900p SSDs were losing about 33% in Q1 random 4k read/writes. Prior to all these updates I would get 300Mb/s in Q1 Random 4k read/writes. Once the new microcode was introduced that dropped to anywhere between 180-200MB/s.
Well the other day I did a fresh install of Windows 10 build 1809. Before installing anything I checked out my speed using Crystal Disk Mark and amazingly, my speed was back to the original 300Mb/s mark. I went through my normal installation process and somewhere during installing my motherboard drivers, my speed dropped back to the 200Mb/s mark. Perplexed I was wondering what program or driver might be causing this drop? So I started over and installed WIndows again, then the Intel Chipset, Intel MEI, Motherboard drivers, Intel IRST, ect. What I found was after about the 4th or 5th boot, regardless what order I installed these drivers, the speed of my 900p would drop upon the next reboot.
As I said I changed things up, installing the IRST driver first, audio second, ect. The next time, MEI first, LAN second, ect. Regardless of what I installed at the 4th or 5th boot, the speed would again drop. It seemed to coincide when Intel's Turbo Boost window would pop up for the first time. Anyone that has installed Windows 10, knows that the Intel Turbo Boost doesn't load up immediately but takes a few boots to pop up at start up. So I thought that this might be the culprit.
I went into my BIOS and disabled the Turbo Boost and reinstalled Windows. This time all i did was reboot 5 times, installing nothing but CrystalDiskMark. Upon the 6th boot, the speed dropped again. I then repeated this installation except this time I changed the group policy of installing Windows updating, basically turning Windows updates OFF or not to install without my permission. Same thing after the 5th reboot, my speed would drop.
I would really like to have my original speed of my Intel 900p back. A 33% drop is quite noticeable. The fact that I'm seeing the original speed after a fresh install made me quite happy and now I'm quite perplexed.
So my question is simple. Why is this happening? What happens in those first 5 boots that changes Windows so my Intel 900p loses 33% of its speed? Is the microcode meant to fix SPECTRE/Meltdown not enabled in those first 5 boots? Do I have to install an INTEL driver for my 900p for Windows 10?
I am asking because a friend with a 905p has been able to do a fresh install and is retaining his speeds. He and I have the same motherboard, GPU, RAM.
**NOTE** I have downloaded the most up-to-date drivers for Intel Chipset, MEI, LAN, IRST, Audio, Bluetooth, Wifi, (all motherboard drivers)
Help?

Omega update
So I'm not sure if this thread accepts Omega builds too. But I ditched the standard extreme. I like the look and 4 x nvme drives. Plus with the robust vrm cooling I could go with a separate ek velocity waterblock. I decided to redo all interior acrylic panels, re-sleeve cables and change the layout of cooling runs. I believe this looks so much better!
