Concerning the QVL, I just find it odd that Asus advertises support for Corsair in Aura yet no RGB memory is in their QVL..

I'm not Chino but the part# to the Corsair modules he has is listed in the pictures posted above. They are 4133 kits.

Your memory is fine. What you need to do right now is tweak your memory overclock for stability.

If you have any questions on setting your ram manually please ask.
This seemed to do the trick. I was able to manually set the CAS settings and then adjust these to 1.20V which gave me stability. You're a genius - thanks! So I established a baseline - zero overclocking - and got a 8921 on 3dMark. After overlocking the memory to 3466MHz, set the 1080 ti to OC mode, overclocking using the 5GHz settings in BIOS, and running all the fans at maximum performance I got 9411 (10317 GPU and 6284 CPU). CPU reached 87C and GPU reached 66C. While I wait for the Grizzly to show up, I cleaned and remounted the Kraken with some Arctic Silver 5. This score is in the 95th percentile which is great, but I can't help wonder how my friend is getting CPU scores of 9417 with a Ryzen 1800X. He's definitely overclocking but only by 10% or so. *Our GPU scores are pretty close but his CPU is crazy high. I definitely need to read the overclocking guide - I'll do that next.

To Chino and CODE MAXIMUS: *I think I may have typed in the wrong number. *I definitely have the 16GB Vengeance RGB 3466MHz. *Sorry about that.*

Sorry for the double post.. not sure how that happened.

If you're using the 5.0GHz preset your cpu is likely getting overvolted some, getting the voltage as low as possible will give you lower temps. The Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut should lower temps another 3c - 4c.

    https://www.eteknix.com/thermal-griz...ands-review/3/

Overclocking your cpu is easy, all you really need to play with is the cpu core ratio, cpu core/cache voltage and set LLC to level 5 or 6.

Excellent.. Once again, I'm indebted to you. My de-lidded CPU spec'ed at 5.1GHz hasn't arrived yet so I'm still using my existing one. I followed your advice. I turned on XMP, up'ed VCCIO/SA voltage, CPU ratio to 51, core voltage to 1.2V, and LLC to level 6. I made sure that my XMP settings remained because it seemed that once I changed the CPU ratio, it switched from XMP.

Anyway, after all of this I got my highest CPU test in 3Dmark at 6500 (9500 overall I think) with temps just under 90C but it's still a far cry from my friend's Ryzen 1800X at 9417 so I'm starting to wish I had gotten Ryzen. I had thought Intel had the edge but now I'm starting to wonder. I might try going to 5.2GHz but it's looking more and more like there's no catching the Ryzen for me. Anything else you suggest?

That is an excellent overclock with nice low voltage.

He's beating you in bechmaeks because he has an 8 core/16 thread cpu but because the i7-7700k is clocked faster you should beat him in games.

You can see how far you can get with the cpu cache ratio.

In the back of my mind I was thinking the same thing.. That Time Spy CPU test is optimized for multi-core/multi-thread. But then I noticed that there are a LOT of 10k+ scores with Intel i7-7700 (some of them running the same OC speeds). Here are some examples.

https://www.3dmark.com/spy/2411654 (looks like he is OC'ed to 6GHz)

    https://www.3dmark.com/spy/1793131

I guess at the end of the day I'm becoming a little OCD with this. Sorry, but that's in my nature. It works perfectly for what I'm using it for (VR), but it would be nice to at least match my friend who has a slightly older rig.

Overclock the cache ratio, this should help improve your score.

I'll run Time Spy and we'll compare our scores, I'll install it now.

    I think I have 3Dmark envy.

    3Dmark envy
    /THrē dē märk ˈenvē/
    noun
a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's score in 3Dmark
"Brian felt a twinge of envy for Nate's 3Dmark score"
synonyms: 3Dmark jealousy, 3Dmark covetousness; More
I'm impressed you got your score so high with the 1070. Sounds like I need to shift my attention to GPU over-clocking next. I've tried going a little higher on GPU and memory OC but no more than a 100-200MHz. Any more and I get BSODs.

On a side note, I have a 5.1GHz de-lidded i7-7700k in the mail. Now I'm thinking I should have just de-lidded the one I have. Perhaps I should do that and compare them... selling the weaker one.
