Received the VROCSTANDMOD key from Shopblt today.
Inserted and recognized by MB, check.
Did not like my 2 960 Pro 2TB's on the Hyper X16 board, check.

With 4 960 Pro 2 TB's for data and 0ne 960 Pro 1 TB for OS on my Apex I still have 3 NVME slots empty.
Not going to worry about VROC anymore.

Having played with VROC with 2 and 3 drives using the trial version, I found that the Windows software RAID was faster in both 2 and 3 drive configurations over VROC. Now it was a non-bootable drive, so to me the only main reason to have VROC going is if you are spanning more than 4 drives or need it to be bootable.

I agree, though, there are faster and better alternatives to VROC. And VROC itself is only the "best" option for one niche among many.

Where did you learn that ASUS X299 WS is bundled with a VROC key? I only see an onboard VROC_HW_Key I/O port in the specs along with a note that "ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 Card available separately for purchase".
My guess is youve never seen a $8 million per rack Cray data warp that REAL enterprise storage solutions deploy. When I say real enterprise I'm not talking about file servers in an office building. Like I said, they make this stuff look like running off of a 5 1/4 floppy. Imagine a solution that can be scaled rack after rack after rack in the hundreds of PB per rack. Think something on the order of 1U of rack space housing 1000 M2 drives or more. You have to see it to believe it. You hit the big time like NOAA GFDL, defense analysis or any of the million sq ft data centers of the banking industry and its just unreal. I do the critical power for these places and $200 million on UPS back up is a minuscule part of their budget.

FWIW the supercomputers like crays don't deploy a single Intel product in their entire assembly. All AMD cores.

This is the old original one that has since been replaced as this one got old and too slow. Im not allowed to take photos inside the data center but this is hanging on the wall in the hallway of the NOAA GFDL site where they do the weather models.

Search WS and VROC key, youll find it in more than one place on the sage platform.

Is it confirmed that VROC keys won't work with SSD 960 PRO on Raid 0 as bootable drive?

Im thinking that's where we are but no one knows. No proper keys have been released, confirmed or implied.
ASUS has said its Intel drives only but not direct and to the point. Intel has not published anything on the x299 platform. All their info is on the C600 chipset that says some 3rd party drives work. Ive been waiting for better than a month for clarification from ASUS and to be provided with a key or an outlet to get one as Intel has stated repetitively that they will not be available for retail sale and only through OEM and SI.
