I've noticed that using the Microsoft drivers also reduces the rate of the issue, at least when comparing to the Asus ones with Sonic Studio removed (which also seems to make it worse).

I created this account just to attest that disabling fast booting it's not even a contingent fix and that the issue remains despite doing that.

I have the latest bios firmware as of right now and I do not see the "Depop" option on the onboard audio section, I would like to experiment with that.

    Cheers.
I did this with my ROG STRIX Z370-G (wifi) and so far the popping sound appears to be gone, I hope it stays gone it was maddening, especially after saving for months to buy a new PC and having issues right out of the box.

Has anyone tried the new strix audio drivers in the ROG Maximus X Hero?

    https://www.asus.com/es/Motherboards...Desk_Download/
    Versión 6.0.1.8480

Due to the different structure for drivers, suggest you remove the old driver first before install this version driver. Sonic Studio is now a UWP app.

I have installed this driver on my pc and there is no popping for now.

Yes, If you read a few pages back (like you are supposed to do before posting) you would have seen that I personally posted the new 8480 drivers work well and the Sonic Studio and Realtek Audio Console are now UWP apps, and again ALWAYS remove old drivers before installing new ones ALWAYS! Never install on top of current unless told to be the release notes.

Also check for Windows Store App updates as all 3 UWP Apps have been updated several times already (Realtek Audio Console, Sonic Sudio 3, and Sonic Radar 3)

Bought a Maximus X Hero and boy was that a mistake. Tried every "solution" posted here, and obviously none of them worked as it's a hardware issue that affects every board, most just never notice it. Bios fully updated, drivers fully updated, every amatuer-tier "fix" of screwing with power profiles or disabling/re-enabling my gpu in the device manager, nothing. Fresh install of windows using my 8700k's IG with no nvidia drivers on the system and windows built in HD audio drivers? Still popping. Newest realtek drivers on that fresh install? Still popping. DPC latency issues? Nope, everything within acceptable ranges and yet the same pops every single time.

As others have mentioned, the issue has to do with sudden, loud sounds. You can reproduce this 100% of the time by playing some music on youtube and slamming the volume bar from right/left very quickly, or even just opening the windows sounds menu, finding something extremely high pitched, and mashing it over and over. You'll get constant clicks. This is absolutely an issue with the board.

I couldn't be more livid with Asus passing the buck on this issue for a problem that has existed for YEARS on their high-end boards. Truly disgusting service, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I'm now forced to order a $40 sound card for my $240 motherboard. I should have saved $50 and went for the Taichi instead, but surprise surprise, I'm outside the return period and would get bent over on the RMA, as well as having to rip my new build apart. One thing is for sure, I'll never, ever purchase another Asus product again.

I wasn't exaggerating when I said I've tried every solution in this thread. Yes, I'm on the latest bios. Yes, I've tried the latest drivers (and older drivers), and the popping happens identically on both the front and rear panel. It's not a software issue, it's a hardware issue with the motherboard. You can find hundreds of posts dating back years about this problem, Asus is well aware of it, and the best their outsourced, "tech support" can offer is to buy a standalone sound card. Disgusting.

There is nothing "racist" about pointing out that Asus is abusing outsourced indian "tech support". The illiterate remark comes from clearly and concisely explaining to someone the steps I've taken to resolve the issue, only to have them immediately fall back to their script and recommend I do exactly what I just explained to them I've already done. When questioned on why they're recommending I do what I just explained to them I already did moments before, they become confused and ask if I'd like to be put on with another agent, only to go through the entire procedure again. It's either illiteracy, or malicious disregard for a paying customer, and neither are a particularly good look.

Now answer me this, since racism is the first place your mind goes. Why exactly do you think big tech firms outsource to india? Is it because they're highly qualified and competent individuals, or because they can get away with paying them pennies, as the average salary for a tech support worker in india is $3500/year, or about $1.80/hour? That seems pretty exploitative, doesn't it?

With that out of the way, since that was the path you insisted upon going down: I'm not seeing any solutions out of Asus, merely passing the buck to Realtek, who has passed the buck to Nvidia. Why can't we get a straight answer on what is being done on their end about this problem? No more tech voodoo anecdotal solutions of disabling X, Y, Z from users with no verification, I want to hear that Asus engineers are aware of this issue and have a timeline for rolling out a solution. No more corporate BS.
