RE6 and 7980XE which 128GB ram kit is the best ?

Hi,

the question is:

Does the 7980XE benefit from faster memory kit like this G.Skill Kit: F4-3800C19Q2-128GTZSW
which have 3.800 Mhz and CL19?

Or is the 3200Mhz CL14 a very good combination of speed and low CL ?
(dont know which is better high Mhz or low CL?)

Can the 7980XE run with XMP loading and 100Mhz FSB with 3.200Mhz? (dont want a oc'ed FSB with 133Mhz).

1) For 128GB configs, you're better off sticking to a lower frequency kit. Density of this magnitude taxes the CPU memory controller, and as each sample has different characteristics, can be a pain to tune for the unversed. Usually, when someone has to ask questions like these (there is nothing wrong with asking), it means they lack the experience to manually configure memory sub-timings when they're faced with instability.

2) DDR4-3200 can work with 100 BCLK.

I moved my BWE TridentZ 3200-14-14-14-34 128G kit (BCLK100) over to this chip and it runs at CR1 where BWE was CR2.

OCing this kit, as expected and noted above, is a bit of a bear - you don't get a lot of wiggle room with this density. I've (just this evening) managed 3600/17 @1.35v, but, not surprisingly, it loses out in real world performance to 32000/14 slightly (though it does post higher aida64 numbers). Needless to say, until or unless I can exceed 3200/14 real performance, that will be the DD setup.

Can you run your kit with loading xmp profile only? Or did you have to tweak some voltages manually ?

Set XMP and then VDIMM to 1.35 out of habit/caution (x99 had a nasty habit in various bioses of "auto" producing ludicrous VDIMM randomly).

That worked out of the box 3200C14.

Then I set CR1 - that too worked without issue.

As Raja says, your mileage may vary - this is a sample of 1.
