Questions about ASUS FX502VM-FY244 - SSD M.2

Hi guys,

Please i need some guidance to order an ssd for my ASUS FX502VM-FY244 Laptop.
Specs https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-FX502VM-7th-Gen-Intel-Core/specifications/
It’s the variant with
-i7700 HQ
-12 GB ram
-gtx 1060 3 GB
-1 TB HDD 7200 rpm
I am looking for an M.2 500 GB SSD with nvme but I am not pretty sure if is compatible with – M.2 nvme .

HWInfo shows the motherboard to be an Intel HM175 Express Chipset but I couldn’t find any documentation&manuals on https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-FX502VM-7th-Gen-Intel-Core/HelpDesk_Manual/ or in the specification page.

My confusion comes from this -> because on the specification page says only about sata III SSD, but here is the GL502VM with the same chipset HM175 and is listed with sata III and 128GB/256GB/512GB PCIE Gen3X4 SSD https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/ROG-GL502VM-7th-Gen-Intel-Core/specifications/ witch is a bit confusing, isn’t the same chipset ?
Here is the HM175 chipset specs https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/chipsets/mobile-chipsets/hm175.html

Any safe bets ?

My thought is to buy a Samsung 512GB NVMe 960 EVO PCIE Express x4 M.2 2280 (normal or PRO) SSD to boot Windows 10 from it and the 1TB HDD to be used as storage but I want to be sure is compatible and also if windows can be booted from the m.2 sata and if there is any specific set up to be made in bios ?

I am ready to follow-up any other recommendations regarding the type of witch m2 ssd to buy .

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you!

The FX502VM supports up to a 2.5" SATA III drive and also an M.2 2280 SSD (PCEe NVMe or SATA).

Thank you for your information ! Still i'm intrigued why they don't update this information on the specification page...

Also i got a dvd with the laptop with all the drivers and some win10 lite, seems Asus dosen't know this laptop has no dvd rom ...great logic ! :)) USB flash stick prob'. is too "expensive"(4 gb lol).

About the upgrade with m.2 ssd...it will affect in any mode my warranty if i open the back of the laptop to put the ssd? Seems you can't open a small area for this upgrade like other laptops have...only the entire back. I pulled out only one screw and had some blue paint on the body of it inside...is this some kind of warranty seal? I didn't saw other stickers or something like this on the back...

Thanks!

I managed to buy&install a nvme ssd samsung 960 evo x4 2280 into this laptop, also windows 10 is booting fine, boot time is like 3-5 seconds, so in conclusion very fast.

For future buyers, if you want this laptop, have in mind an m.2 ssd to enjoy the full potential of it ! 🙂
