    Overclocking a Ryzen 7 with Coreboost & XFR @ 4Ghz

I have an Ryzen 7 1800x and have been overclocking to various overclocks for a couple months and been testing them. I've used P-States for overclocking my Ryzen but having to use Voltage offset to raise voltages just cooks the processor when doing a high overclock. I wouldn't even recommend trying P-States to overclock above 3.9Ghz unless you have a magic chip, either bios needs fixing or the chip doesn't allow a voltage over 1.35v. I've for now settled into using my Ryzen at 4Ghz 3200Mhz RAM (4x8GB) using Stilts 3200 Fast DRAM timings, after running at 3466 but I was having issues booting, though once booted it was fine but a little warmer.

I've read various overclocking guides telling people to switch off Core Boost and XFR but when I do that my processor turns into a heater. If I leave Core Boost, XFR on Auto and set Overclock mode to Auto my Ryzen seems to run cooler. The processor is still managing the voltages to some extent in keeping the processor cooler while overclocked. As a result my Ryzen still is using XFR to ramp up to 4070Mhz while overclocked which is nice as every little hertz counts .

My Ryzen 1800X is no gem to run at 4.1Ghz 3200Mhz on all cores I had to set 1.45V with a high LLC, I would have slowly cooked my Ryzen to keep it fully stable with a high memory clock. 4.0Ghz requires 1.377 under load with a few spikes so if you are having trouble overclocking it, try turning those options back on. You can see below from the temps & voltages below are reasonable after running a large h264 1080p encode.

I've used Prime Blender, Cinebench and a lot of stress tests and benchmarks that the system would pass. But if I encoded a large 1080p h264 video it would crash on the 2nd pass if unstable. I wasted so much time running Prime tests for 24 hours, then for Handbrake to crash the system in less than 30 minutes.

PS. Below Cinebench snip of my Ryzen scores at 4.1Ghz 3200Mhz & 4.0Ghz 3466Mhz, when running at 4.0 3200Mhz I get a score of 1799 with my current memory timings. So this shows that running my RAM at above 3200Mhz doesn't make sense for me at least due to I needed SOC voltage of 1.2V to run 4 sticks at 3466Mhz with 14 CAS Latency, 2T & no gear down timings. For a difference of between 4-10 points on Cinebench but rising temps.

    Hmm
Iam running fine with my setup.

I can just say you can definitely do pstates over 4.0GHz
And I never have any sign of XFR running with my settings, nor any issues disabling it.
Also my clocks and voltages go nicely down, when CPU isnt used.

Yeah voltage seems quite high, but Iam pretty sure I get even higher voltages when on auto and same frequency. (it doesnt like any lower)
I honestly dont really mind, I just dont wanna get any much more closer to 1.5
(Its not exactly 24/7 Voltage, because Pstates)
Also watercooled and temps are fine. (around 65-68 max)
    All stable.

    @ Neoony,

I found that while using Pstates that my Ryzen would generally heat up more due to the voltage offset as I believe it applies to every Pstate not just the custom ones. I supposed you could alter all the other Pstates to take care of the voltage offset at lower speeds though. I must admit most of the guides I've seen only say to alter Pstate 0 and leave the rest. But after seeing your screenshot you would need to lower all the other Pstates voltages to remove the voltage offset at lower speeds.

Looking at your screenshots my and your v-core and other voltages seem to run about the same as I've now bumped up to 4.05GHz, just done it two different ways. I will have a go using your settings at the weekend and see how it goes.

Thanks for the very detailed response.

Also, its kinda weird that although my VCORE voltage often stays at 0.9V, it mostly drops down to 0.5V in the end.
    (Clocks down to 2021MHz)

But good point, I actually never thought the voltage offset might also apply on the other pstates

I know I had some issues when I only did the Pstate0 on Custom and others on auto, but that was on some older bioses and I didnt touch that since.

(also use Ryzen power plan in windows Power, I read it might be important for pstates)

    EDIT:
Also I read many guides and each one says something different.
Its very useful to read many of them and try the different things they say, and see what works best for you.
