Screen distorted after Fn+7, similar to PSOD but not quite?

Got laptop as a xmas gift, had a fresh install of windows on it. Updated ATK package and Power4Gear drivers, left it on a download while at school, turned LCD off Fn+7, and when I returned and turned the Panel display back on, that's the image I had. Force restarting it didn't bring much luck. Sometimes it'll boot to windows 7 logon, which can be seen distored on the bottom 2/3 the screen, but upon clicking User you lose the image.. Trying to troubleshoot this from work, but all I can this of is to try connecting it to an external monitor via HDMI, trying to restore it or flashing new BIOS and vBIOS. If this is hardware related though, isn't all of that useless?? its a G73JH-RBBX05, pretty sure 1yr warranty expired :mad:

Does the screen appear like that when you are in BIOS? If so, I doubt there will be much you can do to resolve it in Windows. If not, you're on track with attempting to troubleshoot by connecting an external monitor with HDMI or VGA.

I turn my monitor off with F7 every day on my G74SX for an hour or 2 when I go walking with my human (had it for just over 4 months), but have never experienced an issue like that.

Yeah it's the same screen from BIOS start to login, and you can't see anything until the Windows portion :[ ..
This is on BIOS 206, I had also downloaded the Haanstar color profile update listed on the drivers update page here for the G73JH..

Went home on my lunch and plugged it in via HDMI an it work's perfect on the TV. So it's a broken screen I take it..:( how should I go about replacing it out of warranty.. Buy one off ebay and try to replace myself or send it to an ASUS shop? I do live in CA so I know there's an ASUS repair shop in LA, but I'm thinking it's going to be pretty expensive comparatively?

Could also be a loose or faulty LCD video cable. Replacing a laptop LCD screen is an Advanced DIY project. Unless you've spent a lot of time messin' with the innards of multiple laptops, I'd recommend farming the job out to a qualified shop.
