Hello

With 7940X, I have 2 cores, (3 and 13) which are ~30° warmer for others (stress test), the others have very good temperature
The application of the LM to redo ?

69890

If so, do I have to clean the LM (how ?) first before putting it back ?
Or can I just "open" the CPU and add a bit ?

Besides, I was advised to clean all the old silicone glue, but I have good temperature on the other cores, and on a 7920X, the glue was left and it is very good too

Thanks for your help
Sorry for my english 😄

You should be fine to just add some more or spread it over the die better, looking at that its uneven, i also cleaned the silicone off mine just because i wanted to get the best contact i could, but its fine to clean it off the IHS and leave it on the CPU.

ok, I'll add a little bit of LM
On the IHS, I will have to add a little, on the CPU is good I think?

For the glue, if I clean on the CPU, I have to remove the LM too
If I do, it's easy to remove with "paper towels" ?

Thanks so much

you can add a drop of LM and spread it on both die and spreader. That should close some gaps.

The reason you might see higher temps is because of not perfect flat contact. Removing glue helps because it lowers the delta between speader and die so there is a smaller gap.

If you remove the LM I would highly advise you to tape off the resistors with some sort of tape, makes it much easier. After you cleaned the die off LM you can just remove the tape 🙂

That's how I did it:

Delidding is one of those things if you take your time and do it right the first time you usually never have to touch it again, because LM never dies out. Saw roughly 25°C temp reduction across all cores and much more even temps. Also 25mv less vCore (no joke) 1mv for each °C it's amazing and well worth it. Took me 3.5h tough. Especially removing the old glue is very time consuming if you want to get it as clean as me (Use isopropanol 99%)

Ok thanks, I will try to remove the old "glue" and clean the LM with a "paper towel" and isopronal or a similar product (isopropyl)
Sorry for my english 😄

I would leave the LP on the die just touch it up, clean the IHS and then tape a cutout the size of the die onto the IHS then apply the LM and then remove the tape this will allow you to get a proper surface area, i used supper glue to stick my IHS back on but make sure your happy with it 1st as it wouldn't be to safe removing it.

Ok thanks 😉

I did not find isopropyl or isopropanol 99% alcohol in the shop next to my house
I'm going to look in pharmacy, maybe

to remove and clean liquid metal, can I do with what ?

Thanks so much

Yes it will do the job cleaning the TIM. It's just a bit expensive for the small amount you get.

For cleaning the glue I don't know. For the glue you need strong stuff. Or you will need half of the 30ml. Nail polish cleaner might work - check for aceton.

For the glue, I will use an old VISA to remove as much as possible, and clean with this product
