Core I9 7960x Overclock - 4.8Ghz Just cant it get stabel. any tips?

Hello.

Im overclockning my 7960x, currently max is 4750Mhz, Cinebench stabile.. But I cant get 4.8Ghz to pass no matter what, what is worng? did try up to 1.31 volts without any luck.

Info about the OC right now:

Asus Rampage VI Apex
1.265 volt for the CPU
Load line 6
1.86 input for the CPU.
Max Core temp: 73c
VRM temps: 57c

Any one know if is a temp issu with 4.8Ghz or?

I have only had my 7980 for a couple weeks so I don't know what to expect yet but passing RB15 at 4750 seems pretty damn good to me, anything above 4600mhz gets difficult for me
Temps and current seems to skyrocket very fast on these big chips I don't think software temp reading report 100% correctly during these fast bursts during benching
looking on HWBOT I see one person pass RB15 at 4860 on custom water but the database is very limited on these chips and CPU's capabilities differ by a huge margin
What is your Cache clocked to as that seems to increase needed current and voltage needed and temps

3125Mhz on Cache, can run like 3250Mhz on Cache no problem.

oh well, just getting a Quad Rad 60mm instead of my currenty tripple 30mm.

So will have total 1x Tripple 60mm 1x Quad 60mm, 1x single 80MM all push pull.

But im getting 7980 XE in 20 days, so hope it can aleast 4.7Ghz 🙂

But mabye im temp limit ye, looks like since it crash.

If you are hitting 4.7 stable you are in the top 10% or better for that chip. Cinebench isnt exactly stable.
Run RealBench and see what you get. If you can pass several runs of that then you are well on your way.

I will try it later 🙂 it should could do it on 4750Mhz, can do Firestirke and timespy on 4800Mhz, just not Cinebench sadly.

Hmmm, I see many like Jayce 2 cent that can do 4.6/4.7Ghz on a single or Duo rad? mabye he was just lucky 😄 We see when it comes.

20 rads wont make a difference if you cant get the heat off the core. Are you monitoring your liquid temp? A single 480 rad is more than capable of disipating the heat from the liquid but you must first get the heat off the IHS and into the liquid. Thats where most of the problem lies with these chips. Im running a 7900X and with dual 480 rads and 20 fans total, can easily keep my liquid temps near ambient and that helps but is not the limiting factor. My machine runs nearly silent with minimal loads but the temps on the core jump instantly when a load is applied and the only thing that changes is my liquid temp will start to rise slowly and the fans ramp up to keep it under 30C.

Im change my tripple to a quad, because Im running a Titan X Pascal in the loop too.
Can do 4.8Ghz in firestirke and timespy, but need a little better temps for Cinebench.

My higheste score so far, 4.8Ghz. Number 20 Hall of Frame Single card .

All above me, useing Titan V or 7980XE / LN2.

Guy's some good stuff

With my 7920X the cache seems to be my bottleneck. If I set to AUTO I can pass a bench pushin it (Grant it I haven't messed with the voltage) Just for ****s and giggles try setting your cache to auto to get to the next notch. FYI SS cooling not delidded
