I have i7 4790k @ 4.5Ghz and ASUS Z97 Maximus Vii Hero. I called ASUS customer support last week, and the customer supporter said they are not sure if the Z97 board will get new BIOS update for Spectre vulnerability and possibility no more BIOS update because my board and other ASUS Z97 boards are not in production anymore. But if ASUS released BIOS update for the X99 boards, than how come not Z97 board as well? Both chip support 4th and 5th gen CPU.

By the way, this is my first time on this community and the first post as well on Monday the first day of the week.

So, if we eventually don't get an updated BIOS, ASUS basically is giving us the finger, on a 450€ MB. Nice!!!

One thing for ASUS to keep in mind ... *if they don't update the applicable boards, they're about to lose a customer of 20 years when I next buy.

That P2B was a long time ago.*

Well, Intel said the malware have to run locally on your system in order to exploit these two vulnerability, so your antivirus will stop it in the first place. As far the customer supporter I spoke last week, he said that's the latest information he got at the moment. How funny is my board manage to received March 3 2017 BIOS update but not in 2018?

Here is the article of what Intel have to say about it: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us...-products.html

Owners of the 4xxx (Haswell) CPU's, please, do not cry.

Except the official firmware update, which is definitely a preferable way, there exist two variants for Windows users to update already existing (but still unofficial) Intel microcode: modify BIOS manually or use VMware tool/driver to modify microcode at the Windows startup. May be MS will release a patch, as in 2015 year.

I signed up on here just to post this. Is my Maximus Hero vii getting a bios update for this vulnerability? There is no clear information on this in any press release. However here it says clearly Haswell(All SKUs) and I have a i7-4790K which is Haswell. Please tell me that my barely 3 year old MB is not already being left out in the cold on this. I paid a lot of money for this MB a few years ago. Am I getting a bios update or not?

I'm not interested in trying to do this myself or patch the microcode in Windows blah blah. ASUS needs to release a bios for this problem.
