Even MS updated XP when there were serious flaws a few years back . This is an unusual circumstance and it should be dealt with by the board manufacturer not by me in my spare time fiddling with the bios at home.
2014 is 4 years ago which is an eternity in the terms of technology. As is 4th generation CPUs.
Comparing an operating system that is still being officially supported to old hardware is like comparing gasoline to an engine. If you bought the gas yesterday to run in a 50 year old engine and it didnt start is that the fault of the gasoline or that6 fact that the engine is seized?

Getting snarky insisting that every manufacturer must update the BIOS for every board and making the statement that its not that hard to do tells me everything I need to know about the thought process at work here. Are you for real or just trolling? This is a monumental undertaking! Its not like there are two board to do or even 200, maybe 2000 and thats extremly conservative.

Do you run virtual servers? Based on the level of intelect in the posts Id doubt it?
Is you Network secure or are you wide open with no firewall?
Do you store financial info on your machine and worth 10s of millions or more?
Unless all of the above it true there isnt much to worry about unless you get caught with things you should not have anyway.

Give them time. If your board doesnt get offered up a new micro code then it must be time to upgrade.

Here is a link to BIOS modding. Just be aware that you can easily turn your MOBO into a vegetable if you are not careful and dont know what you aare doing.

You didnt "compile" your own bios. Common. You used UBU and pressed a key to import the newest mc23, which btw, it has somekind of Spectre patch in it, but isnt the full one.

Also mc23 has ALOT worse OC capabilities from mc22, and causes WHEA errors.

    Shh...the emperor's clothes are beautiful...

Apart from which this whole issue is an inconvenient distraction from CES and since the entire tech site industry is ignoring it, in favor of announcing the new privacy-busting tech on show there, I think we can too.

Some folk need to take a step back and take a deep breath I think...flashing BIOS from some source on the net, or voiding your warranty creating your own frankenBIOS are probably a lot more risky, if you stop and think about it, than the actual risk that you run from Spectre or Meltdown. I'm sure half the hysteria comes from the jazzy naming...if they called the flaw Fido no one would be so upset.

If the NSA want to see what content you have been spanking the monkey to lately, they will...regardless...

Normal good practice for avoiding malware will probably see you right while you wait for a -30% BIOS update and would probably see you right even if you don't use it...at least until Cache-Fecalizer or Eliminator or Sunderdamnation are revealed...

I finally found a debian microcode install file that has the newer microcode in it. But its a real pain to get the microcode into a format that the vmware tool can use. However it doesn't work completely. I am guessing that by the time the new microcode is loaded windows has already decided weather to enable the new feature or not. So it would be nice if windows could enable the feature on the fly, but it seems like the Vmware route isn't going to work unless I am missing something. I was hoping to use this method on my older machines that have no hope of a BIOS upgrade anytime soon.

AMD suffers from an "Intel like" bug

    It has fixed it though

AMD has fixed, but not yet released BIOS/UEFI/firmware updates for the general public for a security flaw affecting the AMD Secure Processor.

In case this wasn't posted already.
I'd like to deploy my troops in her country.
