The CPU microcode has to updated before the Windows OS is loaded in order to turn on branch target mitigation, so BIOS update is needed in this case.
In my case (CPU is Broadwell-E), microcode needed for branch target mitigation is 0x0b000025, current official ASUS BIOS for my motherboard only has microcode 0x0b00001c.

My board is not listed there, my current BIOS is 3502 (version number follows the X99 WS series).
Anyway, I have already modded my BIOS with the new microcode.

    Dear.
    Thanks for the amendment.

Potentialy all CPUs(Include AMD) with data Prefetch in caches have violation for analog Specte attack( I call his PREfetch Data ExtrAction in user Space application with shared physical memory between processes ) (PREDEAS )hacker application can get base adrees ataked process, and prefetched data about size L1/WayAssocitivity or Lx/WayAssocitivity(1 row cacheline ) then can hidden scan memory map victim process and grab need data.
    Best Regards.

They are testing with only the Windows 10 Hotfix installed, they don't have the CPU microcode / UEFI Firmware installed so its not all that relevant. You need both the OS Hotfix + the microcode update to be fully patched and its the combination of both that seems to hit performance the hardest.

Okay, so Maximus IX Apex needs UEFI Firmware 1203, but its not available for download? I can only see a 1101 BETA on the support site?

And I guess my fiancees Asus Rampage IV Extreme with Intel Core i7-3960X and my server with Asus P8B-E/4L and Intel Xeon E3-1275v2 is all out of luck?! The IV Extreme I can mod myself if I can get hand on the microcode, or hopefully someone else can provide me with a modified UEFI Firmware for it as it has BIOS Flashback which ignores verification. But my P8B-E/4L on the other hand is pretty much impossible to get loaded with modified UEFI Firmware.....

    EDIT:

It also seems like the current Maximus X Apex UEFI Firmware v1003 already contains the microcode update? Why isn't it mentioned in the change-log?
