    Does anyone know whether CPU micro code changes may have a performance impact?
    I understand that the corresponding changes to operating systems are known to cause some performance loss.

    What is the status for micro code changes to the i7 7700K?
    Is Intel still battling unexpected system shutdowns?
    I think that treats comes by time to time. Is testing what fail. that is how it works. The patches are safe? No idea. as far these subject is being address, so far and as i read and talk with others, so far so good. For me these is intended to bit safer. these DOES NOT FIX or STOP any new problems are just patch after patch.

    There is always new challenges that all manufactures are facing, even Asus. As far i test and many others, the code works. and Intel knows that tomorrow a new guys or group will try to exploit new doors. These is how I see these.

    The performance hit for us, like you have 7700k, is not perceptible. remember not all is a benchmark run or what hit more numbers. Is how we enjoy and safer are our machines and that is what manufactures like MS and intel with partners missions should be.

    I got good numbers and for the first time i can relay on a asetek 240 aio on a 7700k with 5.0ghz 1.335v.

    As far is my understanding there is no microcode update (microcode updates was 2017 push) is all ready in with the z270 current bios mix with drivers updates. If there is a future updates are improvement or there is another Spectre type issues. z370 correct some problems, z170 still need works and bellow that is on intel side. Please I want to be wrong! i run all spectre test and meldown and i fly with all colors.

    What microcode you mean

    Intel just released a skylake update to oem's so kaby lake shouldnt be too far behind. Actually it is in the beta phase right now!

    When can we expect a new BIOS release with latest microcode update for KabyLake CPU's? Latest BIOS for Z270 IX Hero is dated 2018/01/09 which doesn't contain fixes for Meltdown/Spectre.

    I saw that Gigabyte even updated their B150 boards with latest microcode. Those boards cost less than 100€, yet my 300€ Z270 motherboard is without an update.
    This is getting frustrating.

    As am I. Im sure they arent just simply testing Intels release its been far too long so my hope is that Asus is baking in stability and or various other fixes and features.

    A few weeks ago I flashed to the 1203 bios and updated my Chipset drivers. Since doing this I have trouble getting my pc stable again. When I enter the same overclocks in my bios I keep getting errors about the display driver and reboots without bluescreens.

    I see the following errors in my event viewer before the system resets itself:

    Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

    And

    The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}
    and APPID
    {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}

    In the bios I have loaded the XMP profile and put my cpu multiplier back from 46 to 43, leaving the voltage at 1.3v. The errors stil happen.

    The errors show up if I use Realbench for stress testing or Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility memory stress test.

    The system ran perfectly stable with the old bios.

    Well Asus has the fix in their back pocket, just have to wait until they are ready to let us have it.

    In fact, I can't get the system to run stable anymore with default bios settings.

    I have downloaded the new microcode from Intels website and followed the steps in this guide: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthrea...-CPU-microcode

    Used the 1203 bios but haven't flashed my newly created bios yet. Bit scared to do so.
