I hope people here, especially the Newbies who certainly don't know better, is that, just because there's an update, no matter how critical, SIT & WAIT!

Because as you can all now see, no matter what it is, it can cause problems, and be a mess!

The Truth is, Updates and Patches, sometimes need Updates and Patches to fix the bugs they've created!

Does Patching Meltdown/Spectre CPU Vulnerabilities Slow Down Your PC?

You'll notice slowdowns depending on how much free CPU you had before patch, for a given task/game.

Before the windows patch, I had BF1 with always fixed 90FPS and 90% used CPU, never going to 100% CPU.
After the windows patch, I have 100% CPU always flatline and FPS now drop bellow 90.
If I had more free CPU before the patch, maybe I wouldn't notice this slowdowns, but this performance hit is significant to me, now I will need a new CPU if I want to play BF1 at 90FPS.
GPU is around 90%, never hitting 100% in both cases.

    6600K@4.5GHz
    970GTX
    WIN10, 16GB ram, SSD
    1920x1080 display

Using 90% of your cpu? I think I hover around 60% cpu 6700k @ 4.6ghz playing bf1 1440p, I guess my 1070 is really doing the heavy lifting at 100% - Ultra settings. I have the metred connection set up so I won't apply updates for awhile. LOL

Whats your lowest FPS value with that?
Your 6700K is +-30% faster than my 6600K for same clock, so it makes sense.

With my 970GTX I need to have several BF1 video settings at low and only the important ones at ultra.
I choose the video settings and fixed a max=min=FPS value, to maximize my resources use, but without exhausting any of them.

I flash BIOS 3703 on my Maximus VIII Hero board about two weeks ago when it came out, never had any issues until today. Played some quake live during the day with no issues but when I when back into the game tonight the AMD display driver started crashing causing a hard lockup. The last time this happened was with BIOS 3504 which for some reason caused the same issue. I've had to downgrade the BIOS back to version 3401 just to get the system stable again.

The only thing that happened today was a program update for Bitdefender but that wouldn't cause the GPU driver to crash.

Thumbs up Hero viii + 3703

After a week of testing 3703, I flashed back to 3504. 3703 turns out to be disasterously unreliable causing strange and quite random errors. 3504, on the other hand, is rock solid.

from what I've tested 3401 is by far the best bios for this board, your mileage may vary but this bios has resulted in 0 issues or performance issues.

Since I installed this Bios and all the chaos of Meltdown, Specter and Ai Suite, from time to time I get the message from Q-Led 55, I have to press the Ram check button and that's it, but this did not happen to me before.

Does anyone else have a problem? I suppose it will be a matter of updating Windows? or Ai Suite ?.
