Quad gpu with Z270 apex?

Will quad Nvidia gpu work on an Z270 apex board? Obviously not SLI, just need cards recognized in device manager and functional for mining. Directly connected cards to motherboard, no risers.*

Do I need any minimum specific cpu or will even a g4400 work? Or do I need i7?*

Hello rondocap

Quad SLI is supported but only with two dual gpu's, something like two gtx 690's or two Titan Z's.

The Maximus IX Apex supports up to four AMD gpus.

Why not go for the 7700k, delid it and overclock it to 5.0GHz - 5.2GHz, you'll have 4 cores/8 threads versus the G4400's 2 cores/2 threads.

No, Nvidia gpu's need 8 pcie lanes to work, you have 16 lanes (20 lanes counting 4 from the PCH) so the most you can use is two 1080's.

I am currently running 4x GTX 1070s on my Maximus IX Apex motherboard. Not saturating them but they are working. I'm not sure about 1080s but I know the 1070s work.

Quad SLI is no longer supported in any real capacity beyond benchmark application. However, if you still feel the need to use this many GPU in a system (for mining as you intend) then X299 is the obvious platform of choice due to the number PCIE lanes available.
