Given the context the thread was posted in, I thought it might be pertinent to mention that the reasoning for changing over certainly isn't black and white, Arne.

    http://www.bit-tech.net/news/tech/cp...ode-updates/1/

This is why you shouldn't base decisions on "what's hot" at the time of writing. From near zero to patching vulnerability at the drop of a hat. Enthusiasts should try not to get dragged into these things, in my opinion.

    Hey Silent Scone

Yeah, it was known form day one that AMD were vulnerable to one of the Spectre variants...but a lot less so as I understand it at time of writing.

The main reason I'm changing is the price performance and because the CEO of Intel sold all the shares he could in his own company while the company withheld information on the flaws

That would be cool...and that the CPU boosted different cores in turn...not just hammering one or two...if it doesn't already...

I was talking about this with Vlada the other day...that they need a 10 or 12 core CPU that can overclock... at the right price it would sell like hotcakes

I'm softening the blow by cooking meals .

This site seems to be regularly updating on situation. This article is from the 11/01/18, I found the section under Zen escapes again helpful.

PB/XFR does seem to roll around on many cores, so you could see higher/highest clocks on differing cores. I believe this depends on sample as to how many will be boosting to highest. Ryzen had a hump where when it got to 3.9/4.0GHz the voltage needed was high, I think this is why the binning went on with TR. So they got best clocking dies and probably ones that didn't need as high a voltage so at stock remained with TDP, etc. Hopefully with refresh we see somewhat of nice bump in MHz .

AMD Ryzen/ThreadRipper may not be polished as Intel, both are gen 1. On the whole my experience has been good TBH and no way think I should have stuck with Intel. Pretty much since end of Sep there have been several instances of being able to get a 1950X for <£800, last great promo ~£660 is phenomenal. ASUS PRIME X399-A can be had for £275, which is similar to the X299 variant in price, but a i9 7960X is ~£1400.

Last I read was you also paid for unlocking RAID? limited to Intel drives? IIRC also Intel X299 doesn't have ECC RAM support? It really does seem AMD hit price to performance well.

    Hahaha

Yeah, I saw that article trawling around the other day actually...one of the more informative.

I will have to keep an eye out for deals on TR...

Saw this video today that had me hooked it's a bit promo but can do the work

I was wondering actually if there is any synergy between TR and AMD GPU? or does Vega, for example work the same on X299 as X399?

And in the wings is still another da da daaaa! to occur, I'll probably be regelated to the garden shed! .

No synergy between TR and AMD GPU that I have noted. Ryzen Master will not tinker with AMD GPU either. I did have a GTX 1080 before getting VEGA, neither presented a + or - with TR/X399 in context of query.

I've seen this "news" quoted as something nefarious before. Just so you know, No CEO/BOD member, while employed by the organization, can sell any shares (even expiring grants) without the approval of the BOD and not without filing a specific form with the SEC 90 to 180 days (depending on the share type and grant agreement) for the specific reason you site. Do you really think the Intel CEO is going to sell some (small) portion of his total holdings (and compensation) without checking all the boxes? C'mon guys, this is tin-foil hat territory.

But yeah - the AMD CPUs are a good bang for the buck. Why would it take the "revelation" that some funky side-channel hack, that's been around for 20+ years at this point, for this "thinking" to occur? Geeze... who knows how many such "holes" exist in AMD's CPUs. that we don't yet know about. you know, the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence

Just because he filled in the correct paperwork doesn't mean he didn't fill in the paperwork not knowing about the flaw

    https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-...taggering-flaw

oh.. definitely tin-foil hats at this point. Lol, ever hear of Sam Waskel. No CEO is gonna mess with insider. Especially one where $25M is peanuts. Again, can;t sell without BOD approval - eg, chairman and comp committee.
Best to stick to reality here bud.. like, yeah AMD CPUs are a better bang for the buck. simple and easy.

to the guy above... you need to read up on what type 1 and type 2 errors are. nothing to do with guilty or innocent
