I'm at work and haven't tried yet. I guess they won't really work because as Raja already said the boards are pretty different. But I'm still going to give it a try.

try some looser timmings @ 1.4v u can even try 1.45v safly
    try 1.3 - 1.32v vccio / vcssa

also i read a ton of forums befofre over clocking my ram from 3000 to 4000 read around 3 days of oc forums

asus boards train your ram on boot on my asus z370 wifi board under ram timmings @ the botto mof page there is a training option mine is on and stable up to
4133 with traning on with my 3000 mhz try turning that off

also try asus dram mode to 2 it relaxes timmings to the 2nds .
    you shouldnt have issue geting to etleast 3866 on those kits realy werid man 3000 cl 14 , 3200 c l14 , 3600 15 / 3600 16 are samsung bdie

    the last 4 kits of g.skill 16gb ( 2 x 8 gb ) rgb 3000 cl 14 are samsubg bdie i can get them to 4133 4000 mhz cl 18 being my sweet spot .

It might also be that you do not have the best binned b-dies. I think it was buildzoid (youtube: actually hardcore overclocking) who stated in a video that the 3200 c14 b dies are usually the worst ones.

I'm considering a 2x16GB kit to use in my z390 Gene. Which are the best around?
My target would be 4000 cl18, but I think that could be too hard to achieve.

    ROFL

I'd stick to something like gskill 3200 c14.

I recently tried the GSkill f4-4400c18D-16GTZR's ($400 US )on my Apex X (on QVL) and could not get more than 3700 with my standard overclock using Raja's "4133" mem timings. Now, I could get the kit to 4300 c19, but only with my cpu running at default speeds .

Ok, now the funny part: My $200 (US) GSkill 3200 c14 Ripjaws will do up to 4300 c18 1.5v ; I'm currently running the kit @ 4200 c17-17-17-38 cr2 at 1.42v on a 53/50nb, no avx offset 8086.....62 read 62 write with AIDA latency as low as 36.9 (using Raja's mem timings). ... Yeah ....go figure.

Not really sure as I don't run HT ....the puters primary use is for a flight simulator <Prepar3d> that I've always run with HT off. The cpu upgrade is from an 8600K.
But, I"ll experiment over the weekend and report back when done ....
