Rog strix-gtx1080ti 11g oc + kraken nzxt x41

Hello guys!

I need a help, I have a vga ROG-STRIX-GTX1080TI-O11G-GAMING and would like to install a hybrid watercooler, because I am not aware to install a kit.

After a lot of research I found the NZXT krakem G12, and I was very interested in acquiring it, but I have a big question: do I need to use a VRM heatsink? Does the G12 cooler suffice to cool the entire board?

on the watercooler AIO, the NZXT X41 from the account of this board?

Thank you!

My Settings:
CPU I7 7740X 4.3GHZ
MEMORIES: 16GB 3333MHZ (8GBX2) KINGSTON HYPERX PREDATOR
MOTHER BOARD: ASUS MARK 1 X299
SSD: TOSHIBA TL100
VGA: ASUS STRIX 1080TI OC 11G
CASE: NZXT H440 RAZER EDITION

Hi pantanero

I do see the NZXT 41 is compatible with the Kraken G12, the vrm's are cooled with a fan.

I see it also says up to 40% increase over "stock" cooling. With the Strix cooler you get approximately 30% increase over "stock" cooling.

Price to performance and voiding the warranty would not be worth it in my opinion.

Save your money and keep it as it is. 🙂

Hello Nate152, unfortunately I have no warranty, because I acquired my VGA in another country and the global warranty of Asus is not valid in Brazil, I think it is unfair, but we can not do anything: /

After your report I will keep the stock cooler even it is very good.

My temperatures never exceeded 72ºc but the colder the better hehehe. I live in Brazil and here it is very hot the ambient temperature is around 35ºc to 40ºc at this time of year and unfortunately where my computer is allocated there is no air conditioning.

But finally, thank you for your opinion and I will keep the stock, but if you change your mind, I'll be glad to know that it's okay to use the G12 + NZXT x41.

Sorry to hear you don't have warranty in Brazil.

The only thing I would replace the Strix cooler with is the EKFC (Full Cover) water block and back plate, the EK water block does liquid cool the vrm's and would do the best cooling with a custom loop but would cost ALOT more.

To me it wouldn't be worth it for a 10% increase in cooling with the Kraken x41 and G12, 72c is very good temp especially in a warm room such as yours.

Cool Nate152, I've never installed a custom loop, if you have any tutorial or days send me I would love to study and be able to do it with my own hands.

Thank you!

You're welcome

There is alot of information online how to install a custom loop, EK is one of the best manufacturers of waterblocks, radiators, pumps, tubing, fittings etc....

Your case has good radiator support, that's a good start right there.

Front - 2 x 140 or 3 x 120
Top - 2 x 140 or 3 x 120
Rear - 1 x 140/120

Next you'll want to see if there's room for everything, there are alot of options and one is to get a pump/res combo to help save space and there are different kinds.

Here are 2 from EK..

pump/cylinder reservoir combo, this one has RGB and supports Aura Sync.

https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-xres-140-revo-d5-rgb-pwm-incl-sl-pump

Pump/reservoir combo, this one will mount in two 5.25" drive bays.

https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-dbay-d5-pwm-incl-pump

Remember I said it will cost alot more? It's going to cost around $1,000 - $1,500 and if you do it you might as well do the cpu. You can get ram water blocks if you want them too, as I said there's alot of options.

First decide if you want to spend that much.

What cpu cooler do you have now ?

I have the AIO Seidon 240m from the cooler master and it has its useful life coming to an end. Need to buy another one for replacement, so I asked you about a custom loop, maybe it's time to go for a full cooling (CPU + VGA)

Before buying anything read up on it so you have an idea of what what you'll need/want and to avoid costly mistakes, then ask any questions you may have.

Here is a list of EK cpu waterblocks for the ASUS TUF x299 Mark 1, I see they don't have a monoblock for your motherboard.

You'll want to check the serial number of your Strix 1080 Ti to make sure it's compatible.

Would you want a Pump/Res combo ?

Tubing - There is soft tubing and hard tubing, for a first timer I'd recommend soft tubing as it's much easier to work with, you'll need a tube bending kit if you go with hard tubing.

Fittings - Whatever size tubing you go with is the size of fittings to get.

I went with the Koolance ERM-2K3U which is an external cooler. If you decide on this cooler go with Koolance coolant and tubing. This is the ERM - 3K3UA which has an aluminum radiator, there is one with a copper radiator too. The downside to this is you'll need two people to move your pc.

Im using Koolance 3/8 x 5/8 soft tubing with 3/8 x 5/8 Monsoon chain gun fittings and Koolance coolant.
