Hats off to you all getting four of them. I could do 4 since I don't run SLI... using 3 PCIe slots and one U.2. I wouldn't use the hyper x16 tho, too many wires for me.

This is what we're talking about? https://www.amazon.com/Hyper-M-2-x16.../dp/B0753JTJTG

Doesn't look like there are any wires at all...

I boot off a Samsung 960 pro. All these drives run thru the CPU VROC VMD controllers. No PCH. So I get full bandwidth.
Where do you stick your boot drive? The m.2 under the armor?

    Thanks!

I am thinking to switch my RVIE for a SAGE to have those plex chips and four "full" PCIex16 slots.
Yes I run my GPU at x8. I am maxed out with my setup on PCIe lanes. And the GPU goes in the last PCIe slot.

    SOON!
You don't need the key with that setup. I run two Hyper X16 cards with 8 Intel 900ps in RAID 0 w/o any key. I tested 4 in RAID 0 before I did 8 w/o a key too. You only need the key for non-intel drives and higher level RAID.

Intel 900Ps need a converter from U.2 to M.2. You can order the Intel 900Ps with that cable connected to the drive which I highly recommend. Its the thinnest solution out there. that being said what Brighttail is talking about is the m.2 adapter goes into the M.2 slot on the Hyper x16 card. 1 for each drive. And that adapter has a cable connected to it that then goes to the Intel 900P. So yes there are cables for each drive. They are bigger than normal sata cables and you have to run them from the Hyper x16 card to where you mount the drives. I don't think it looks any worse than the other cables just use good cable mgmt. I have a pic of my rig outside my case showing them all. I still haven't put my rig in my case yet. Here is a pic with the first 4 as you can see I didn't put back the cover either and I disconnected the power to the onboard fan. It shows the connections and cables better than my pic of all 8 its a shot way back.

Here is a pic of IRSTE of all 8 drives with no key and no warnings or issues w/o a key:

I recommend getting the drivers from this site for IRSTe:
    https://www.win-raid.com/t2f23-Intel...-v-v-WHQL.html

Go to the x299 section, for installing with windows 10 you want this link to get the driver to load at install time (v5.3.0.1388):
    https://www.smartredirect.de/redir/c...-v-v-WHQL.html

Then after Win 10 is installed you want the full IRSTe with the latest driver from this link (v5.3.1.1016):
    https://www.smartredirect.de/redir/c...-v-v-WHQL.html

These driver versions worked best for me overall.

It is really sad that the 4k numbers don't benefit from 8 m.2 drives.
