The 240Hz ROG Strix XG17AHP portable monitor lets you game on the go like a pro
The hardest part about gaming on the go is dealing with compromise. While we’d love to have access to our beefy home gaming rigs from anywhere, that’s just not realistic when life takes us on the road. In the ROG labs, we’re always looking for innovative new ways to improve your portable gaming experience, and we know how vital a good display can be. That’s why we’re excited about the ROG Strix XG17AHP portable gaming monitor.
The XG17AHP is a stunning 17.3” Full HD IPS display built for gaming. The 3ms response time and 240Hz refresh rate ensure that your game will run with speed and clarity, and its ultra-thin design means you can take it anywhere. Combine that with our custom Tripod and Smart Case, and you’ve got the ultimate portable gaming monitor.
Ready to move
We gave you the first look at the ROG Strix XG17AHP back at Computex 2019. Since then, we’ve been listening to feedback and improving upon the original design. We’ve worked especially hard to perfect the stand, leading to the development of the optional Tripod.
For reference, we initially designed our Smart Cover to both protect the XG17AHP and act as a built-in stand. The 178° viewing angles on the display keep colors looking vivid, even sitting at a low angle on your desk. This low angle works great for some situations, but despite its adjustable nature, it isn’t always ideal. Sometimes what you need is a more traditional monitor stand, and that need led our engineers to make the portable Tripod.
While the Smart Cover is great for setting the XG17AHP next to your laptop to match its position and angle, the Tripod makes it feel more like a traditional monitor. A convenient quick-release mechanism lets you click the Tripod and XG17AHP together and go. When you’re finished, just release the stand from the monitor using the same mechanism. The Tripod folds up into a remarkably compact package and fits in just about any laptop bag, so it’s easy to carry with the XG17AHP.
Just like your monitor at home, you can easily adjust the height or angle of the XG17AHP when it’s connected to the Tripod. Since your laptop sits low on a desk, the Tripod lets you keep your gaze at a more ergonomic level. You can even raise it high enough to sit directly above your laptop’s primary display if you want to use them together.
We’ll be offering the XG17AHP in two packages: one with the Smart Cover alone, and one with the Smart Cover and Tripod together. You can pick the setup that best matches your portable gaming needs.
Speed and agility
The ROG Strix XG17AHP isn’t your average portable display. What makes it a true gaming monitor is its vital 3ms response time and high refresh rate. If you’re a professional player, or even if you’re just highly competitive, then you’ll appreciate the display’s 240Hz refresh rate. This capability allows the XG17AHP to display new frames as quickly as your laptop’s GPU can crank them out.
We know that pushing 240FPS isn’t the easiest of tasks on a laptop, which is why we added support for VESA Adaptive-Sync technology. Adaptive-Sync automatically synchronizes the display’s refresh rate with your GPU’s output in a range between 48Hz and 240Hz. This prevents screen tearing and keeps your game looking buttery-smooth, even if frame rates drop below the panel’s native refresh rate. The easy-to-drive Full HD resolution and wide Adaptive-Sync range make the XG17AHP an appealing partner for many gaming laptops.
Everything you need, nothing you don’t
Connectivity on the XG17AHP is simple and straightforward. One USB Type-C port serves as a DisplayPort input, while another charges the internal battery. A single micro-HDMI 2.0 port handles your A/V signals if you’re connecting to a console or other device without a Type-C port. If your laptop’s sound isn’t cutting it, the XG17AHP has a pair of 1W speakers for those times when you don’t feel like wearing a headset.
A portable gaming monitor wouldn’t be complete without a suitable battery. The Strix XG17AHP’s built-in battery is strong enough to battle through three hours of gaming at 240Hz without needing a charge. Speaking of charging, our engineers chose to use a USB Type-C port to handle power input. You can charge it from your laptop while using it, charge it from the wall, or use a portable battery if you’re in a real bind.
Take your game on the road
When gaming performance is essential and travel is inevitable, the 17.3” ROG Strix XG17AHP serves up everything you want in a portable package. With a 240Hz Adaptive-Sync IPS panel and a low 3ms response time, plus the optional Tripod stand, the XG17AHP will make you feel like you’re gaming on your home battlestation.
We’ll be showing off the XG17AHP and the Tripod stand at our CES 2020 showcase, located at the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort and Casino. To set up a media tour, or for more information about pricing and availability of the XG17AHP, please contact your local ASUS representative.
