The layout of this motherboard is excellent, but if we are talking about expandability at the PCIe slot level, there are only two. Therefore, we see this motherboard as an excellent solution for a gaming PC with the bulkiest possible graphics card, where a streaming card, for example, can be installed in that bottom slot.

The Asus ROG Strix X870E-A Gaming WiFi7 NEO is, at first and second glance, literally a dream come true for building into a gaming computer. These boards are simply a perfect match for all AMD processors, but especially for the X3D models.

Visually, the board leaves a striking impression, and we didn't find even the illuminated ROG logo to be overly intrusive. Generally speaking, the board is very well-equipped and its presence places it in a higher market class.

The ROG Strix X870E-A Gaming WiFi 7 Neo board features a complete gray-and-white design with ARGB LED lighting on the VRM heatsink cover, a 20-phase power delivery unit with 90-amp SPS, USB4 ports, WiFi 7, and 5 Gbps ethernet. Of course, it also includes a 64 MB BIOS chip with a new UEFI interface as well as a return to a mechanical ejector for graphics cards, which are characteristic features of the Neo boards.

The power delivery unit is very powerful and on par with the one on the X870E-E model, easily ensuring stable voltage even for the strongest Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor. The build quality is at a high level, and the heatsinks are massive and do an excellent job of keeping the VRM unit cool even under load.

Taking it out of the box, it is noticeably heavy, which indicates extremely massive heatsinks, and it’s clear that no expense was spared. The I/O panel is packed with connectors, just like on top-tier and high-end models.

ASUS has practically moved the best technologies—the ones that actually make a difference and that we initially saw on the ROG Crosshair and Glacial models—into the segment below. So if you've been eyeing those models but they are financially out of reach, and say, you don't care about the motherboard having a fancy OLED display, or a handful of overclocking buttons and subsystems, or the best power delivery section of all time and such, then this A Gaming Neo is the right choice.
