CES 2017: Republic of Gamers Announces Latest Gaming Laptops with 7th Gen. Intel Core i7 Processors
At CES 2017 in Las Vegas, new laptops from ROG were on display featuring the latest 7th Gen. Intel Core i7 processors. The new processors add several optimizations, for gaming laptops, some of the most beneficial ones would be the efficiency meaning you can Turbo Boost to higher speeds for longer, Speed Shift can change the clock speed faster to make the system more responsive, and a new media engine now shifts decoding into hardware which improves battery life and reduces heat. For the following laptops, you can see the boost in performance compared to the previous generation. The laptops getting the upgrade are ROG GX800, G701, G752, ROG Strix GL702/502 and GL753/553.
For the naming scheme, if we look at these new processors Intel Core i7-7820HK and i7-7820HQ for example, H denotes high performance (U for ultra low-power), K denotes overclockable quad-core chip, and Q denotes quad-core.
More ROG gaming laptops now feature super-fast 120Hz refresh rate and 4K Ultra-HD resolution!
ROG GX800VH
The ultimate beast would natually get the upgrade, ROG GX800VH is an 18-inch gaming laptop now powered by an overclockable 7th Gen. Intel Core i7-7820HK processor and features two GTX 1080s in SLI graphics for monstrous gaming performance.
GX800VH features the exclusive Hydro Overclocking System, to provide liquid-cooling to all key components, and the route maximizes efficiency as the fresh cool liquid entering the laptop go straight to the processor and the first graphics card before reaching the second, which typically requires less cooling than the first. Extreme cooling means extreme performance from the processor, memory and graphics cards as they can overclocked even higher. The new Intel processor can now be overclocked to 4.3GHz (previously 4.2GHz), while the graphics cards also got a bump up to 2,075MHz (previously 1,961MHz). This translates to 20% more performance than other laptops with GTX 1080s in SLI.
GX800 features the Mechanical Tactile Advanced Gaming (MechTAG) keyboard with mechanical switches and customizable AURA RGB lighting for each individual key.
