New Windows 10 build installed MB drivers. Do I need the Asus drivers?

First time installing Windows 10 on a Z170 MB. Previously I was using Windows 8.1 and upon installation of that OS I was used to yellow triangles in Device Manager and then having to manually install chipset drivers.

With this Win 10 install I have no yellow triangles. So it seems Win 10 has found appropriate chipset drivers, etc. So should I install the ones from Asus? It just seems odd to replace the drivers I already have with ones from 2016.

Thanks!

If you clean install (windows 10 1809) for the z170, (rog or strix ONLY) use these ones

https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?105343-DRIVERS-Intel-Chipset-Ethernet-iGPU-MEI-SATA

USE LAST BIOS.

download the main 3 (CHIPSET, IME, NETWORK) using another computer or before clean install and you gpu (nvidia)

On some users, what I did, having all those on the usb, Install the windows without internet, install the windows, install CHIPSET, IME and network and install the nvidia driver, then apply internet and update the windows and store.

Then... the last one https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?105726-FIRMWARE-Intel-ME-(Z170-Z270-Z370) and wait that these is done. (these is 1 time only) and you are set to go.

The realtek audio driver is the only one that I have NOT tested on z170. before apply these one. Make a restore point and try if work with you .

MAKE THESE ORDER of installation by the letter. have work with me and my community friends. ONLY APPLY these for z170/z270/z370. I will try on my z390.

good luck

i can recommend this easy to use portable app for driver update check 🙂 https://www.snappy-driver-installer.org/

Ok, so I take it that you guys are suggesting that I do not use the drivers that automatically installed. Right now my Windows 10 is working 100%. (I'm not using this for gaming by the way).

Also, why would I have to download this stuff from another PC? 🙂

Regarding your question, so windows does not load and install generic drivers. especially gpu drivers. Now on z390 with ROG board, have crate. i use that to put my pc to work since stop windows generic drivers. that did help a lot. i will continue testing and checking back any issues as always.

even that is a fantastic tool. I recommend using the ones from asus forums or your board website. there are some changes that make the board happy especially main ones like ime, chip set and network (wifi/BT/ethernet) There are some board that use INTEL ones, like for example EVGA that is cool since drivers are always ready to use. Msi since z270 have uptodate drivers. I hope ASus do the same someday. The team here is making these possible and works wonders (z170/z270/370/z390 and some x299 ROG/strix) Amd is no brainier since once you install the asus ones, is just updates and is 100% fantastic. working amd chip set is cool relax and more if you have a AMD GPU since all is on 1 install.
