Why did my board BURN at fist start?

Hi everybody;

I bought a new "ASUS Rampage IV Extreme" motherboard. Last night I build all the components of my new PC.

The components are;

Intel Core i7 3930K with Zalman CNPS9900Max
Asus Rampage IV Extreme
Team Xtreem 4X4 16GB 2400Mhz
Team Xtreem 240GB SataIII SSD
Zotac GTX680
High Power Rock Solid 1200w
on case of Thermaltake Shark

As the list above I connect the electricity cable and turn on the PSU. Everything was seen OK. All the leds of rampage was lighted normally; then I hit the chasis start button. Bingoooo... Show has begun...

First I saw the spark, second I heard a sound (chat-shat-WATT-PISSS), third I saw the smoke and finally I smell the smoke....

After that I turned off the PSU to check the situation and the components.
Everything seemed OK except the "Smoked Chip"

I turned on the PSU again and I sad "OK! Comes again!!..."

I hit the start button....

Ta-Taaa.... It worked with it's burned chip. I entered the BIOS, checked the temps. There was no problem; except of smoked chip and my smoked money.....

Then I install Windows 7 x64....

Here is the burned chip:

8467

Does anybody know what this chip for?

The end of the story:

Today I gave the board to technical service and I told my story. They said they will came back to me for one week. Now I'm just waiting the result....

I would get the board RMA'ed, and I would get another PSU for insurance. I would also check your other components for any other possible damage that may have occurred in the process.

RAM time. Do not run the board with a burnt chip.

Do you think the DIMM's can be the reason of burning?

Contact the shop you bought the motherboard from and arrange to return a defective board.
