G75vw-AS71 (Amazon) 750 GB Hard Drive Question

Hi guys..Im new to the ROG family.Ive actually just placed my order for my laptop. Really really excited.Had to order it with my cousin in the US...Waiting for her to bring it down next month when she comes to visit.

Ive got a question about the 750gb hard drive that comes with the AS71 version... few sites have said that this is a hybrid drive. Can anyone shed some light on this, as amazon just says that its a normal 7200rpm drive.

You can take the back cover off, 2 more screws, and check the drive make.
There is a forum entry (sticky) at the top that shows you how to do this. You have to use a bit of force to pop the back cover off once the screws are undone, but from there it is easy.

An alternative is to go into the boot screen - press F2 on startup This will often show the brand and make of the drive.

If you can afford it, an SSD harrddrive is the single best thing to speed up this notebook. Put your original drive in the second bay. It is very dramatic. Go for a 128 gb (or large model).

There are some good sales on right now art around $1 a gb - look at tomshardware.com and search for best ssd drives for may to get some recomendations. The Samsung 830 and Corsair M4 get high marks for reliability.
