Does upgrading RAM in G74SX-BBR1 make any difference.

I have been planning to upgrade my 8GB RAM to 16GB RAM. I was wondering if it can handle 1600MHz and would it make any difference on performance.

If you use 2 8GB sticks at 1600mhz, it should handle it. But if you use 4 4GB sticks at 1600mhz, I think it will automatically be downclocked to the 1333mhz that your computer is probably at now. Depending on what kind of applications you're going to be running, you may or may not even need the extra RAM. I've got 16GB in mine, and I will sometimes do some Virtual Machine work where I need to have a lot of RAM (8GB for that 1 machine), but other than that I don't think I've ever really been over 6GB just using Windows itself or playing a game. Almost every program is still based on 32bit, so memory usage isn't going to be that high

Thanks. What is the price range of a pair of 8 GB 1600MHz?

Doing a quick search on Newegg, I found this set for about $70, and it looks like all the other brands and such they have there are around the same price for 2 8GB sticks at 1600mhz

Thanks for the help. One last question, would the RAM increase performance on Max settings on like Battlefield 3?

Maybe be a little bit. BF3 is a GPU intensive game so don't expect a lot of improvement. Actually 8GB is pretty much overkill for gaming. And the sweet spot for RAM is around 1600Mhz.

I think same type would be better, if difference it would be running lower.
