G75VX: BIOS 206 & Constant GPU fan, temp increase

Yakov

After the 206 BIOS update, my fans are constantly blowing warm air. Is this normal? It wasn't doing this before. The gpu is usually around 50 C.

Is anyone having this happen?

I upgraded BIOS to 206 using WinFlash Utility the first day I turned on the computer...no issues. Are you OCing the GPU at startup? I would expect the GPU fan to start idle up at 50C and throttle down passing 45C.

Your GPU registers temp as 50C at startup? Unless you have some graphically intensive startup program, that makes no sense (unless you just pulled your laptop out of the trunk of your car after a day in the sun). I would be more inclined that something is going on with the graphics card instead of the mobo/BIOS change. The graphics drivers may need to be updated as well. But I updated the BIOS days before I went to 314.22 nVidia driver. Any issues with the CPU fan?

Well I've updated both driver and BIOS. I do physically run around my school to get to class with this thing though. I use it for graphic design and video courses but maybe running with it to get to class on time can damage internal components.

vitozilla, I like your quote. It reminds me why I quote the Arecibo SETI reply on my account.

@Yakov. Amateur astronomy and astrophotography are my other passions. The G75 VX has been the perfect replacement laptop for me. The lighted keyboard is very convenient in the field when I'm controlling my telescope, camera, guide camera, and focuser with the ample supply of USB connections (no more hubs!). Great GPU for driving my planetarium program The Sky X, and 32 GB of memory for CS4, MaxIm DL and PixInsight make the processing tasks quick and easy! Really has been a mobile desktop for me...the fact it is also a great gaming laptop bonus. Lots of big bang for the buck.

Same here. idle is around 38-43. it seems it's quite normal. 670xm is a powerful card, so I assume we are expecting highter temps compared to a 660m (which usually sits around 30c idle)
