Bit confused from reading the "Before you buy" guide, is the open HDD bay SATA or mSATA, and what type of HDD does it take?

I just bought a G751JM from Best Buy a week ago. It has a SATA connection in both hard drive bays, with the primary bay (furthest from the optical drive) having a 1TB 5400 RPM HDD and the second hard drive (closest to the optical drive and nearest the RAM) bay being empty with just the caddy secured there for future expansion.

Since purchasing the computer I have removed the 1TB HHD and replaced it with two 250GB Samsung 840 EVO SSDs. I have encountered no issues, aside from learning how to make Windows 8.1 acknowledge a newly installed hard drive.
