Issue Overclocking Memory

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 64GB (8 x 8GB) DDR4 2800 (PC4-22400)

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti SC+ w/ACX BP (1102MHz)

SSD/HDDs/Optical drives: 2xSAMSUNG 850 PRO 512GB (RAID 1) + 1×SAMSUNG 850 EVO 1TB (scratch disk)
(I have 4 x WD BLACK SERIES WD4003FZEX 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" SSDs I intend to install in RAID 5 once I can get the system stable)

PSU: CORSAIR AX1500i

ISSUE:
The above settings seem to work and are stable for me.
Once I switch to using the XMP profile for overclocking my RAM my system stability goes out the window. More precisely, The system POSTs and boots into Windows but then freezes anywhere from one minute to five minutes. The only thing I have open on the desktop is the Date and Time settings so I can easily track how long it takes to freeze.

XMP Settings (only listing changes from above):

CPU Strap: 125 MHz
BLCK Frequency: 127.3 MHz
CPU Core Ratio: 24
DRAM Frequency: DDR4-2800 MHz

I have tried various CPU Core Voltages w/o much effect/difference: 1.00v -> 1.45v in 0.05v steps.
This is the first system I've built since 2001 so am a little out of touch and uncertain to the root cause. I'm not sure whether I should adjust the CPU Core Voltage even more, the SAV, or yet some other setting. I'm working under the assumption all h/w in use is fine (fingers corssed). Any sage advice or help would be gratefully appreciated :)...

64GB using all eight slots at 2800Mhz would put extreme stress on your CPU's IMC. You will probably have to leave your CPU frequency and voltage at normal/default for now, and adjust the System Agent (SA) voltage until you achieve stability. Your SA voltage looks low for that memory configuration. I would up your SA voltage my 0.01v until you get your system stable, and then you can adjust your CPU settings.

Would that be a likely candidate for my system freezing?
At what voltage should I consider a top limit here?

Ya, I forgot to ask that. Combining kits is a big no-no, especially at that frequency. I learned this the hard way.

Correct.

Clear your CMOS to bring your CPU and memory back to stock defaults. Does your system still freeze during operation?

It's very possible.

Two things, based on your post, that would probably be causing the system to freeze:

1. CPU frequency is not getting enough voltage.
2. Your CPU's IMC (memory controller) is having a hard time handling the memory.

This is what I would do. Perform a CMOS reset, turn power off on your computer and hold the power button in for 20~ seconds and plug it back in. Set AI Tuner to XMP and see what happens. If your system still freezes, up the voltage on your CPU by 0.01v, but make sure to leave the frequency at the at the default speed.

If you CPU voltage is not the issue, up the System Agent voltage by 0.01v and test. Keep doing this until your system stabilizes. With my kit, my SA voltage is at 1.17v. G.Skill has stated that some systems require up to 1.3v of SA voltage, but I personally wouldn't go above 1.2v SA voltage unless you absolutely must.

If none of those works, take out all your DRAM sticks and put one in at a time (make sure you insert the stick in the correct slot; you may have to refer to the manual). Keep doing this until your system freezes again or you get the system to work. This will tell you if you have a bad memory module or if your CPU is having difficulty handling your memory configuration.
