ROG Extreme V Edition 10 w/ GPU Problems

Well, where to begin. I suppose first to show you the specs so you know what hardware I'm running.

http://valid.x86.fr/rhahw8

It started initially with major DPC latency problems when playing something as simple as a video file. I reinstalled both attempts on Windows 8.1 and finally Windows 10 currently. I've put all the drivers in from the ASUS website, I've updated the BIOS to 0601, I've reseated the graphics cards and tried one at a time in different slots (specifically just 1 and 3).

The current problem, while the DPC latency issue has disappeared I'm unable to get the performance I'd expect out of my Titan X's. Only from slot 3 which according to GPU-Z is x16 however it's 1.1 instead of 3.0 regardless of GPU load.

When both GPU's were installed, the primary GPU read as PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x4 2.0 at one point, x2 at another point (yes both times under load) but since then it's read as x8 3.0 I believe after I updated the BIOS from 0502 to 0601 beta. I've reset the BIOS settings to their default values and I've ensured no overclocking was being done on the CPU or memory.

When I tried a single GPU in slot 1, it read as x8 3.0 instead of x16 3.0. Both GPU's read the same.

When I tried a single GPU in slot 3, it read as x16 however at 1.1 no matter GPU load.

The previous motherboard I had, the ASUS X99 Deluxe, didn't exhibit any of these issues. Could I have a bad motherboard or have I missed something :(?

P.S. The only power I haven't connected is the EZ_PLUG below the graphics cards. My understanding is that this is only required when there's some serious power requirements from using multiple graphics cards (e.g. 3+ I'd assume)?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I had a similar issue. I had a samsung 950 installed with adapter in 3.0 slot 4 (last slot) and csm disabled because I was trying to do nvme raid 0. I pulled the card in slot 4 and re enabled csm. Then everything was back to normal. I'm going to just try to put the 950 pro from the last slot in the m.2 slot and not run raid 0 on it. The bios didn't see my 950's either but the Win 10 install did. It's running good now so hopefully we will see some good bios releases coming up.

I have a similar situation. I have a Samsung 950 pro in that Angelbird adapter in the bottom slot and my current 980 in top slot is running at x8. This is all in the bios though. No OS installed yet. The video card should be running x16 in the top slot. I have the SBZ sound card in slot 3 currently. I do not have a second video card installed at this time.

I am running sli Titan X and removing the card from the last slot returned my slot 1 card to x16. The other 950 Pro in the 2 nd slot is fine. First card now at x16 and 2nd vid card at x8 like it's supposed to be. You can force x16 in the top slot by disabling the m.2 and u.2 but that is for 4 way and it caused issues with my graphics drivers. It's still so new. These issues will be solved eventually. Mine is working fine now. There are no real reviews yet even of this board. Only that one youtube video which is just an overview of what's on the board. I'm also using the Angelbird PX1 adapters. Thought I could use 2 of them and populate all the 3.0 slots but that last slot is causing problems.

Maybe Raja can give some guidance if he sees this post.

Is the block diagram the same for the RVE?

If not, can you post it?

Hi Raja,

When clicking on the link I get an error indicating that I'm not signed in, while I am. Any limitation in accessability here?

Thx

So what would happen with two video cards and a U.2 drive? I was thinking of doing dual 1080's and Intel 750. It sounds like if I get a U.2 version then I will cut PCIe 1 to x8. If I get the PCI version and place it slot 4 I was told weird things happen and if I put it in Slot 2 then I am again with an x8 video card. Is that right?

If you connect a U.2 drive and nothing in 3.0 slot 4 it will have no effect on your video card link speed. They will both be at x16.

So with a 6850k 40 lane CPU, GPU1 in slot 1, GPU2 in Slot 2 and Intel 750 in U.2 will give me x16 / x16 on the GPU's?

If I add a sound or firewire card to the PCIe 2.0 slots that should have no effect on the PCIe 3.0o slots correct?
