Hi Joey.ken,
The external graphics via Thunderbolt 3 is implemented with Microsoft Hybrid Graphics technology, here is what you need to do to gain the full capability of your new GPUs:
1. Make sure you are using the correct output. For maximum performance, please set your primary display to the monitor connected to the XG STATION 2. You will get the max performance under both Primary and extended mode provided XG STATION 2 is your primary display. Result shows up to 15% faster perfformance comparing with using your notebook monitor.
2. If you happened to use a notebook with Nvidia Optimus Technology, please make sure you have disabled the Nvidia dGPU from under Device Manager before connecting XG STATION 2, as Nvidia treats XG STATION 2 in the same manner as the Nvidia Optimus Technology. Without doing so the Nvidia driver will only switch between your Intel and Nvidia GPU inside your notebook without using the GTX1080Ti in the XG STATION 2.
3. Set your game to max settings. The higher the resolution and complexity of the rendering job (i.e. higher AA and performance consuming settings), the closer it is to using the GTX1080Ti in the full size desktop. Results show GTX1080Ti can deliver up to 88.58% of the full performance under benchmark and up to 87.36% under game respectively when comparing performance between Core i7-7700K + Z270 and Core i7-6770HQ + XG STATION 2 combination when working under 4K UHD resolution with max settings. Result varies with games you use.
4. Make sure you are using Windows 10 64bit, as other OS does not have full support for Thunderbolt 3 external GPU mode.
Let us know if you have any further questions.

Hi joey.ken,
If your notebook is based on GTX1060, you will not be using Optimus (Hybrid graphics with all outputs connected to Intel GPU), hence you can already skip the first two steps.
You will need to to higher resolution (the higher the better), highest details, and perhaps higher AA setting, then you will see the significant boost from your built-in GTX1060.

the game FPS difference is way too big...he 's cpu is i7 2700k
and you can see TI83-based enclosures VS TI82-based enclosures the host-to-device (H2D) bandwidth

Hi joey.ken,
As explained earlier, Thunderbolt 3 external graphics is based on Microsoft Hybrid Graphics technology, it will not be able to perform at its fullest under low settings. Please try to use maximum details with all effects on and AA max'd out, and preferred with higher resolution monitor such as WHQD or UHD to compare the difference with your notbeook inbuilt GPU.
The new firmware with improved performance is in the middle of validation process, and should be release sometime soon.

The point is,if u cant get 60FPS at 1080p with full setting max out how can u get full 60FPS in 2K or 4K resolution at same setting? i do have a Asus PG348Q monitor but need wait me home than test.....but i doubt the performance will boost to normal when i use PG348Q's 3440x1440 resolution
And 1080Ti's performance should easy get 60FPS on The Witcher 3 or Rise of the Tomb raider with all setting max out
Even GTX 1080 can do that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75nOWxljlN8&t=4s

What Bahz mentioned is the release of the new firmware. It is currently under Intel approval, and will be released once it is digitally signed.
With this update, you will expect up to 10% better performance, games engine dependent. Please stay tuned for our update.
