Introducing the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X: ROG and Xbox team up to deliver the best in handheld gaming
Two years ago, we set the bar with the ROG Ally, a bold new addition to the emerging handheld gaming market with killer hardware and the ability to play all your games on the go. Last year, we launched the Ally X, an improved version that raised the bar even higher with more storage, improved customization, and more comfortable ergonomics. But this year, we are incredibly proud to announce the ROG Xbox Ally series of handhelds, developed in collaboration with the gaming wizards at Xbox, which take the ROG Ally lineup to all new heights in performance, comfort, and user experience.
All-day comfort in the palms of your hands
Ergonomics are paramount for handheld gaming devices. From the moment you first take it out of the box to the moment you power it down, it sits in your hands. We’ve always taken ergonomics seriously, but we’ve taken the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X to a whole new level. Inspired by the iconic Xbox controller design, these are the most comfortable handhelds we’ve ever built, with larger contoured handgrips that practically beg to keep you glued to the couch for hours. A redesigned palm wrest and custom texturing will keep you locked on target, while the ABXY buttons and joystick locations will feel deeply familiar to Xbox gamers.
The ROG Xbox Ally X also features impulse triggers for more detailed haptic feedback in supported games. Just like on Xbox controllers, these triggers allow for more nuance and immersion.
Seamless user experience, courtesy of Xbox
While our Armoury Crate Special Edition software brought a streamlined, controller-friendly interface to the original Ally, we knew we could take it further. So we teamed up with Xbox to create a truly seamless user experience.
As soon as you power on the device, you enter a full-screen Xbox experience, with controller-based navigation that any console gamer would find instantly familiar. Quick access to settings and customizable widgets are available with a single press of the Xbox button. But with Windows running under the hood, games and mods from other sources are still at your fingertips if you ever feel the need to play in a bigger sandbox. The ROG Xbox Ally series offers the simplicity of Xbox, the craftsmanship and horsepower of ROG, and the flexibility of Windows, all in one cohesive device.
Efficiency and performance: Ryzen Z2 and Z2 A Processors
Under the hood of these two handhelds lie the latest and greatest silicon from AMD. The ROG Xbox Ally offers a console-caliber performance with its AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor. At the same time, its ultra-efficient design at low wattages and its 60Wh battery produce improved battery life. For those looking for the absolute pinnacle of performance, the ROG Xbox Ally X pushes the limit, offering more room for graphical fidelity and higher framerates with the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor.
Both machines feature the best display in handheld gaming, with 500 nits of peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate backed by FreeSync Premium to minimize stutter and screen tearing. If your display doesn’t have VRR, it isn’t truly built for gaming.
Both chips are also primed to take full advantage of Radeon’s latest software suite for graphics and performance improvements, including AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution (FSR), Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), and AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) frame generation, the latter of which can offer up to 60% better framerates for improved smoothness across your library.
Finally, in a nod to the future, the AMD Ryzen™ AI Z2 Extreme-equipped ROG Xbox Ally X also features an onboard NPU. No matter what the future of gaming holds, the ROG Xbox Ally X will be readywith built-in AI acceleration.
A great year for handheld gamers
