Project Flipmode by Pascal
Pascal is a 22 year metalworker/welder veteran from the Netherlands, so there's few people more qualified to make awesome, scratch-build PC cases. In Flipmode, Pascal has twisted the typical motherboard tray and created a minimalist mod that focuses on a watercooled ASUS P7P55D motherboard as its powerhouse, while the rest of the kit is entirely hidden underneath. The materials used are a combination of steel and aluminum and stainless steel. We've rounded up the general process here, but there are far more pictures of the build process over in the bit-tech forum thread.
Initial Design
Constructing the main box
All the steel parts were cut and welded together, then the corner welds were cleaned up. Make sure its absolutely 90 degrees! [gallery include="" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery"]
Making the Flipdoor hinge
The hinge was inspired by Koenigsegg car doors that pop outwards then upwards. Pascal designed and built the hinge himself from the CAD drawing below: [gallery include="" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery"]
Preparing the motherboard tray
With a small bracket set into the back plate, Pascal laser cut the motherboard tray to include all the holes required for the fans. After some 90 degree bends in the right places it was dropped in: [gallery include="" size="medium" link="file" template="file-gallery" columns="2"]
